Facilities include two gorgeous pools (one indoors and one outdoors), along with a fitness center, a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, and two conference spaces. Travelers wanting a similar property closer to town may prefer Shiv Niwas Palace on the eastern banks of the lake, near the City Palace.
Scene
Gorgeous palace-style hotel with traditional, ornate facade and detailed frescoed interiors
Chunda Palace is an ornate palace-style hotel crafted in the traditional Rajasthani style, with gorgeous terrace boxes across its golden facade and onion-domed cupolas on the roof. Inside, the decor is ornate, with floral and geometric Rajasthani fresco designs on the walls and moulded ceilings and lovely archways throughout the common areas. This decor scheme can be found throughout the hotel, from the hallways to the rooms -- even the walls and ceiling of the fitness center are covered with painted fresco-work. Outdoor common areas include a large marble terrace area surrounded by screens and cupolas and a gorgeous pool area with views out over the lake. Most guests are couples or families on vacation, though the hotel does get some wedding and event groups owing to its two conference spaces.
Location
On the banks of Lake Pichola, a short drive into town -- but away from the main tourist attractions
The Chunda Palace is located in Udaipur's Mali Colony neighborhood on the western banks of Lake Pichola near the landmark Oberoi Udaivilas hotel. There are plenty of little shops and basic restaurants in the area. It's about a 15-minute drive to Udaipur's biggest attraction of City Palace, located in the main touristy part of town, near the city's famous Jagdish Temple and a few minutes' walk from restaurants and shops catering to international tourists. It's about a 20-minute drive to the railway station. Getting to the airport can take upwards of 40 minutes.
Rooms
Intricately decorated rooms and suites featuring Rajasthani frescoes on walls and ceilings
Chunda Palace Hotel offers a variety of rooms and suites, all with ornate Rajasthani decorative features. While rooms are certainly regal, some might find the decor a tad busy. Each unit includes intricate hand-painted walls and ceilings featuring frescoes and floral designs, crystal chandeliers, antique-style furniture (including four-poster beds in some rooms) and beautiful silk cushion covers. All rooms have safes, flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms feature rose-colored marble on the floors and ceilings, giving them a loud look that some guests might find a tad bit abrasive. Tiny hairdryers and simple toiletries are provided. All rooms have shower/tub combos with rainfall showerheads and jetted tubs. Some rooms feature lovely garden views.
Features
Two lovely pools, conference facilities, small fitness center, restaurant with terrace seating, and Rang Tarang bar
Chunda Palace has lovely facilities, including two swimming pools: one indoor pool and one outdoor pool. The outdoor pool is gorgeous, situated on a terrace with a few lounge chairs and lovely views out over Lake Pichola in the distance. The indoor pool is equally stunning in its own right, with frescoed walls and a cloud painting on the ceiling. There's also a small fitness center featuring a rack of free weights and a couple of treadmills in an elaborately frescoed room. The main conference room can seat up to 200 people theatre-style and a smaller Billiards Room holds up to 60 people. Both rooms can be rented out for weddings or conferences. There's also a restaurant with indoor and outdoor terrace seating (the latter has some lovely lake views), plus a bar -- Rang Tarang -- with cigars, liquors, and wine. Other features include a travel desk, a shop selling traditional textiles and artwork, and free hotel-wide Wi-Fi.
