Bottom Line

The Purple By Ibiza Feeling is a mid-range, adult-only property that’s centrally located in the party-heavy area of San Antonio. It’s the area’s first and only dedicated LGBTQA hotel, though it is admittedly mostly geared toward gay men. Expect clean-lined, modern decor with pops of color that extends from the reception and restaurant area, out to the courtyard pool, and up to the 28 slightly snug rooms and spacious suites. Budget-priced rooms have minimal amenities, while upgrades to suites get extras like bathrobes, chromogenic lights, upgraded style, and free minibars and breakfast. Standout features include two bars and a small art gallery, plus free gated lot parking and pets under 22 pounds. For those not specifically looking for a gay-friendly spot or are traveling with kids, it's worth comparing rates at the nearby Hostal Tarba.

Scene

Simple, relaxing, and fun gay-friendly spot with a chill vibe and great location

The Purple is San Antonio's first and only fully dedicated LGBTQA hotel, and it's a part of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association. Though located in one of the party-heavy areas of the island, this adult-only property has a chill vibe and a clientele that prefers to use the space as a respite from the chaos that is often found beyond its doors. Though this is a LGBTQA-friendly property, it is mostly geared toward gay men, and the hotel has a policy of accepting reservations from everyone as long as they are "friendly people with an open mind". Unlike most hotels in the area, the entrance to The Purple is slim and easy to pass by. In 2014, the building was fully refurbished and rebranded, changed from a no-frills hostel to a contemporary budget-friendly hotel. While closed in the winter of 2016, bathrooms were updated.

Location

Central setting near the area's popular bars and clubs

The Purple has a central location in San Antonio village that’s walking distance to the area’s popular promenade and several bars, shops, and restaurants. San Antonio is known as being a party-heavy area, though it’s not uncommon to see families wandering the artsy streets. Nearby clubs include Cafe Mambo, Mint Lounge, Eden, and Savannah. The small beach area of Calo el Moro is just a 10-minute walk away, and the main bus station that makes stops around the island is a seven-minute walk.- Five-minute walk to the Sunset Strip

  • 11-minute walk to Eden and Es Paradise
  • 12-minute drive to Ushuaia, Privilege, and Amnesia nightclubs
  • 25-minute drive to Talamanca
  • 25-minute drive to Ibiza Airport
  • 28-minute drive to Playa D'en Bossa
  • 30-minute drive to Ibiza Golf Course
  • 35-minute drive to Santa Eulalia Beach
  • 35-minute drive to Es Cavallet Beach
  • 36-minute drive to Dalt Vila

Rooms

Fresh, simple rooms with air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs

Though there are only 28 rooms at The Purple, guests have a decent selection ranging from economy-priced Essential Rooms up to snazzy Junior Suites with extra perks. Decor is contemporary but basic with white walls, minimal clean-lined white wood furniture, and pops of purple and olive-colored bedding. Double Room Essentials are small and priced for those on a budget, but still include the standard amenities of AC and heat, 32-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and free Wi-Fi. Balconies with simple orange contemporary furniture help the Double City Rooms feel a little less snug and give views either over the pool or city. Unfortunately, not all rooms have balconies. Some of these rooms have shower/tub combos instead of stand-up showers.Premium Doubles are more comfortable with queen-sized beds (two doubles pushed together), 42-inch TVs, and extra amenities like chromogenic lights, upgraded bathroom amenities, bathrobes, and sexy glass rainfall showers that are open to the bedrooms. Guests in these pool-view rooms also get free minibars, in-room safes, and breakfast. Junior Premium Suites ramp up the style with noticeably larger rooms featuring green couches with gold pillows, white-and-purple striped walls, a frosted-glass bathroom area with gold decals. Extra perks in these rooms include slippers, tea-and-coffee facilities, and a small bar area.

Features

Unexpected features include a courtyard pool, restaurant, two bars, and art gallery

The Purple is loaded with surprising features for its small size. Out back, guests will find a small but fun and relaxing courtyard pool with metal entrance steps and rainbow-painted bamboo decor. The perimeter is lined with a few sun loungers, umbrellas, and sofa bench seating. There’s also a pool bar slinging drinks and snacks, and table seating on the deck. It’s worth noting that there’s a grammar school on the other side of the pool, and during school season the loud sound of children is likely to interrupt any sunbathing Zen. Just off the 24-hour reception area, the hotel’s lobby is replaced with the Pinch of Purple restaurant. This small and colorful spot serves meals and snacks, plus drinks from the bar to guests at short bar stools or in open-booth seating along the walls. Local art is hung gallery-style on the walls and diners have a view out onto the pool deck. While Wi-Fi and pets under 22 pounds are free, this hotel charges for in-room safes unless you are in a Premium-level room. Note that there is no outside food or drink allowed on the premises.
