THB Naeco Ibiza

Formerly the THB Ibiza Ma, this hotel underwent a full renovation in 2017 and reopened as the THB Naeco Ibiza. Access is still between a kebab shop and mini-market, though otherwise the property has been completely transformed inside and out. The drab pastel facade is now all glimmering white with glass-paneled balconies. Inside, dated seventies styling has been replaced with bright, contemporary, and cheerful decor, with splashes of orange and funky retro-tinged design. Outdoor areas include a pool terrace and sunny chill-out zone, where giant rib-like installations double as shade and showers, while creating an edgy, almost avant-garde beach-club look. Lack of music around the pool, however, makes for a low-key atmosphere that won't appeal to those after a more upbeat, party vibe. The mood at this adults-only property is laid-back, and obviously free of any noisy kids. Clientele tends to be younger couples and less rowdy groups. 

The THB Naeco Ibiza is located on a quiet block across the street from the small, sandy Playa Es Pouet beach overlooking Sant Antoni Bay. A supermarket and other small shops located right outside the hotel entrance draw some foot traffic during the day, but the area is mostly quiet at night, as there aren't many bars in the immediate vicinity. There are a couple of fast food joints within a few blocks of the hotel, but guests looking for something fresher or more upscale will have to explore a little farther afield. The party areas in Sant Antoni, including the West End and the Sunset Strip, are a 10-minute drive away, and those who don’t mind walking can reach the city center in a 25-minute stroll along the bay. Ibiza Town and the airport are each a 20-minute drive away.

All 104 guest rooms were updated in 2017, with a bright, modern finish that combines wood-effect flooring with bold, contemporary wall art, funky furniture, and backlit paneling and mirrors. Previously apartments, units are spacious and have similar decor, all with simple seating areas and furnished balconies or terraces. The only real difference is that half overlook the pool and the other the neighboring scrubland; some higher-level rooms are also treated to partial sea views and fabulous sunsets. 

Amenities include widescreen smart TVs (with a few British channels), coffee- and tea-making facilities, and mini-fridges. Both electronic safes and in-room Wi-Fi are free of charge (with a generally decent internet connection). Bathrooms are minimalist, with rainfall walk-in showers and separate removable showerheads, wall-mounted hairdryers, and hotel-branded toiletries. 

There's certainly no shortage of outside space at the THB Naeco Ibiza, starting with the freeform swimming pool and surrounding sun terrace lined with loungers. The pool has a smaller, circular pool attached, though it lacks aqua-jets as one might expect. New for 2017 is the hotel's chill-out section, with shallow splash pools, sofas, lots of loungers, a glass-sided gym, and low-key piped-in music. Many past guests report that while aesthetically pleasing, the loungers are very uncomfortable. 

Breakfast is always included in the rate, served in the bright, modern restaurant, and can be enjoyed alfresco on the sea-view terrace. The spread is good quality, with freshly cooked eggs and smoked salmon on offer. The restaurant also opens for lunch and dinner with an a la carte menu, which most guests score highly. An optional half-board rate also covers a three-course evening meal. Various drinks and freshly-mixed cocktails are served from a small poolside bar.
