Santos Ibiza Suites

The entrance to the adult-only Santos Ibiza Coast Suites is tucked down a trail lined with potted trees, but it sticks out thanks to a large golden halo -- the hotel's ubiquitous logo. Opened in 2013 and claiming to be one of the first designer hotels on the island, it certainly stands out as one of the more unique properties. The lobby is a light and open space combining rock 'n' roll touches -- such as a Janis Joplin mural and quote -- with colorful furnishings, fresh white walls, and wood paneling that sets a hip, vintage tone. Bright, contemporary decor with splashes of the hotel's signature teal continues throughout the long three-story blocks of guest rooms -- all with elevators. 

The swish and sexy beachfront pool terrace is the real heart of the property, infusing clean lines with modern design seating in teal, yellow, and pink, undulating canopies, and palm trees to create a blissed-out, beach-club vibe. Background beats are an almost constant -- though more chilled out than some party hotels -- while live DJs and fashion shows crank things up during the evening. Clientele are slightly older and better behaved than the typical rowdy party mob in Playa d'en Bossa, but still a very much up-for-it crowd.

The hotel is located in a pedestrianized area on the edge of Playa d’en Bossa's renowned nightlife district, and right on its long sandy beach. The famous Bora Bora beach club is just a five-minute walk away, while the renowned Space Ibiza club is less than 10 minutes on foot. Ushuaia and Hard Rock Hotel -- two other buzzing spots -- are also within walking distance, and there's no shortage of other restaurants and bars within a short stroll. The airport can be reached in about five minutes by car, and Ibiza Town takes 10 minutes.

The hotel has 38 suites, most of which are named after a musical artist with connections to the island. Decor is bright and modern, incorporating Boho-chic touches such as colorful woven rugs and throw pillows with the peace symbol, music-related accents such as Beatles posters, and clean-lined furnishings. All rooms open to furnished terraces or balconies, 12 of which overlook the pool and have superb sea views. Separate living rooms include lounge areas with 32-inch flat-screen TVs, speaker systems, and sofabeds. Kitchenettes have islands with stools, as well as minibars, electric hobs, and cookware. Contemporary bathrooms have walk-in showers, wall-mounted hairdryers, and toiletries; typical of many area hotels, water from showers and taps have a salty taste that some find unpleasant. 

While not huge, the pool is big enough for cooling down and even a few strokes. Plentiful daybeds surround the pool and most notably, there are views of the beach and out onto the sea. There's also a poolside bar and evening pool parties where live DJs frequently perform. Poolside massages are also available, but there are no spa or fitness facilities. Beds on the beach are managed by an outside company and have to be rented. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, but the connections can be shoddy. 

A Mediterranean-style breakfast buffet of bread, cold cuts, juice, and fruits is served (though not included) in a bar that extends to a terrace area. A la carte options are available throughout the day and evening and can be consumed by the pool. Guests can also order room service.
