Bottom Line

This value hotel is centrally located in San Antonio, within walking distance to popular spots yet still removed enough to avoid overwhelming nighttime noise. Not having a pool is a negative for some, but the guests can use the pool at a sister property (five-minute walk) for free. The 59 rooms come equipped with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi, but some aren't as modern as others and don't have a balcony. The property lacks a restaurant and gym, though a buffet breakfast is free and laundry facilities are available. This is best suited to budget-minded couples and friends, so families looking for a hotel with more kid-friendly amenities might find Fiesta Hotel Tanit to be a better fit.

Scene

Contemporary budget hotel, good for friends and couples

The Orosol Hotel is located on a mostly quiet street surrounded by other hotels and restaurants. A marble entryway leads into the lobby, which has beige tile floors and a seating area in the same neutral-tone palette. The dark-wood reception desk also doubles as a small bar, with stools lining one side. This is also where the morning buffet is served; the dining area has a cheerful bright-green accent wall and a couple rows of light-wood dining sets. With very few features for kids to enjoy, this hotel predominantly sees couples and friends rather than families traveling together.

Location

Prime location, walking distance to San Antonio hot spots

Previous guests have noted that despite being fairly close to the action of San Antonio, nighttime noise was minimal. The hotel's location allows guests to be able to see much of the city by foot, so a rental car is not a necessity. The Sunset Strip is a quick 11-minute walk from the hotel, meaning famous spots such as Cafe Mambo and Cafe del Mar are close by. The beach and port are also about a 10-minute walk. There is a Tex-Mex restaurant just outside of the hotel, less than one minute by foot. The pool at Hotel Tropical is just a five-minute walk.

Rooms

Comfortable rooms, many with outdoor spaces

The single room at Orosol Hotel is a bit of a tight squeeze, but other than that rooms are comfortably sized. The yellow-and-peach bedding with a floral pattern in some rooms feels a bit dated, but dark-wood headboards and modern art on the walls keep spaces feeling mostly contemporary. More up-to-date rooms have simple brown bedding with colorful throw pillows and a big beachy mural over the bed. All rooms have beige tiling and a mixture of light- and dark-wood furniture that includes bedside tables, well-sized wardrobes, and desks. Air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, safes, and mini-fridges are all standard. Only some rooms have furnished balconies, though. Lower-category bathrooms are a bit dated, but come equipped with shower/tub combos, pedestal sinks, bidets, and free bath products. Higher-category rooms have a more modern aesthetic and walk-in showers. The Spa Suite is undoubtedly the most chic and modern space available, outfitted with light-wood floors, white bedding, and a modern bathroom with a high-tech shower. Its most notable feature, however, is its outdoor whirlpool located on the balcony.

Features

Minimal -- no on-site pool, but free buffet breakfast

The features at this hotel aren't anything to write home about, mostly because there are so few. Orosol doesn't have a pool, though guests can use the pool at the nearby Hotel Tropical free of charge; it's a well-sized pool with plenty of loungers but few umbrellas available. There is a small dining room off the lobby where a free buffet breakfast is served. Previous guests have reported that the buffet fare is good and has a decent amount of options. A small bar is also located at the reception desk. Free Wi-Fi, a computer in the lobby, and laundry facilities are additional features. The hotel also provides free luggage storage and a shower room for guests after they check out.
