Bottom Line

The three-and-a-half-pearl OD Ocean Drive is a boutique property that is thin on public space but heavy on the details. Designed to reflect the Art-Deco style of Miami's South Beach and 1920s Manhattan, this compact property is full of great style inside and out. The 40 handsome rooms run on the small side, but come with free minibar items, bathrobes, rainfall showers, and fresh fruit, plus most have balconies with pleasant views. Suites pack a punch with extras like a free smart car and airport pickup. In summer, the hotel hosts frequent parties an the rooftop Sky Bar and serves breakfast until late, while winter sees a calmer crowd. Expect free Wi-Fi, gorgeous marina-facing views, and access to the pools at the adult-only OD Talamanca up the street. Unfortunately, limited parking and noisy hallways are also present.

Scene

Chic and stylish boutique property with varying clientele based on season

Inspired by the Art-Deco architecture of Miami’s South Beach, OD Ocean Drive is easy to spot from the road. The tall, bleach-white building looks larger on the outside than it feels on the inside, but that’s primarily because most of the interior space is allocated to the hotel’s 40 rooms. It feels like there should be a pool or courtyard out back, but what you see is what you get, and if you love smart contemporary design with a slight bohemian flare, you’ll feel right at home. The lobby area is bright and handsome, with black leather chairs, a large flatscreen TV, display cases with soaps and jewelry, and a glass jug filled with crystal-infused water. The rooftop, meanwhile is all white with fake grass, Bali beds, and modern plastic bubble furniture.Ocean Drive is open year-round, though the clientele shifts with the seasons. Summer sees young couples, bachelors, and groups of friends looking to party, while winter welcomes a slightly older and more sophisticated crowd. Though the occasional return guests will stay over a week, the hotel’s snug rooms work best for shorter stays. For those seeking more spacious rooms or several chic on-site pools, check out Ocean Drive’s sister property, the OD Talamanca just five minutes’ drive up the coast.

Location

Quiet and walkable location across from the Botafoch Marina

OD Ocean Drive is right across the street from the Marina Botafoch giving guests great views across its docked yachts to Dalt Vila and Formentera. While this isn't as bustling of an area as Playa D'en Bossa or the Old Town, there are still a handful of shops and restaurants lining the marina, a day spa, and bank all within a few minutes' walk.  - Five-minute drive or 12-minute walk to Pacha nightclub

  • Nine-minute walk to Talamanca (20-minute walk to OD Talamanca)
  • 11-minute drive to Ibiza Airport
  • 11-minute drive to Playa D'en Bossa
  • 12-minute drive to Ushuaia, Privilege, and Amnesia nightclubs
  • 13-minute drive to Ibiza Golf Course

Rooms

Snug but stylish rooms with top-notch features and extra Suite perks

Like the rest of the hotel, the (somewhat noisy) rooms here are contemporary and stylish, featuring a handsome dusted-chocolate color scheme, smooth wood laminate floors, and space-saving, frosted-glass sliding doors. Rooms here lean toward the snug side, especially the quieter “back view” rooms without balconies. When room have balconies, the space is narrow with just enough room to fit a table and chairs. Rooms facing the ocean can get toasty in the summer, while the rooms looking out at the red rock in the back are a bit quieter and cooler. All rooms come with AC that will automatically shut off if the balcony doors are open, electricity powered by keycards, minibars stocked with free water and soft drinks (refills and snacks cost extra), fresh apples, and two free bottles of water. Bathrooms are attractive (and especially tight in the Single Rooms) and come equipped with hairdryers, bathrobes, magnifying mirrors, OD-branded toiletries, and large rainfall showerheads. Some bathrooms have small privacy windows to the outside world, but none come with bidets. Suite guests get extra perks like free airport transfers (in a Porsche no less) and a free smart car to use during their stay, plus upgraded bathroom amenities, sleep kits, Bose sound systems, Nespresso machines, and slippers. The Formentera Suite also has a jetted bathtub.

Features

Rooftop terrace and buffet breakfast, but no pool or gym

Though the hotel may look large from the road, there’s actually little public space inside. Guests here can split their lounging time between the first floor and rooftop Sky Bar. The first floor’s small lobby and lobby bar (which is open 24 hours via the receptionist) don’t see many stragglers, but a few people do spend time out on the narrow restaurant terrace or in the shade of the breezy restaurant. However, come summer, the party is on the roof. The Sky Bar hosts several events each week and has a small bar and DJ area along with several white Bali beds and plastic seats, fantastic views over the marina, and a few potted plants for atmosphere. While it's a downside that there's no on-site pool, guests are welcome to use the three pools at OD Talamanca just a 10-minute walk up the road. Unfortunately, there are no gym or spa facilities here.Folks who book online with the hotel will get free breakfast that features a high-quality continental buffet, Nespresso machine and coffee drinks, sparkling cava, and made-to-order hot items. In summer, breakfast runs until 4 pm.. and guests can have it delivered to their room for free. Outside of breakfast, the restaurant is unofficially open for meals on request or room service. Tablets, laptops, and concierge services are available from reception on request, though babysitting and laundry services come with a fee. General freebies include fiber-optic Wi-Fi and limited parking out front.
