Bottom Line

This 25-room upscale boutique in the hills of San Antonio has an eclectic style and history -- it's seen quite a few famous faces over the years. A converted farmhouse, Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel has a rustic, Mediterranean vibe that's quickly met with modern touches and avant-garde decor for an undeniably unique aesthetic. Despite being off the beaten path, this secluded spot is still lively, with a poolside bar hosting happy hours, parties at the nightclub, a pink tennis court, and "rockovery" wellness services. Rooms here are spacious, as eccentric as the hotel's other spaces, and most rooms have a furnished balcony or terrace. For a more central location, the adult-only Palladium Hotel Palmyra is situated on the beach and is walking distance to the Sunset Strip.

Scene

Previous party haven for the rock elite, now eclectic and quirky spot with popular club

This farmhouse turned hotel has nearly as much history as it does character. Founded by notorious Ibiza party-legend Tony Pike, throughout the '80s and '90s this homestead acted as a getaway for the (mostly rock) elite -- think Freddie Mercury, Bon Jovi, Grace Jones, and many more. It's also the spot where Wham filmed their 1983 hit "Club Tropicana." If walls could talk, the walls of Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel would surely have some incredible stories.Located in the idyllic hills of Ibiza, the hotel has a remote, intimate feel, while still being a lively spot. It has an authentic Mediterranean vibe, thanks to impressive stonework, flower-covered trellises, wood-beam ceilings, and terra-cotta tile floors throughout. There are countless eclectic accent pieces sprinkled throughout the property, some of which carries over into the rooms. Interesting objects include a bright red alligator over the pool bar, a giant stone nose at Room 39 restaurant, plastic flamingos hanging from a tree, taxidermy animal busts at reception, buddha and Ganesha statues, and music sheets covering the nightclub walls. Most guests that come here find the striking, quirky design a pro, but it's certainly not for everyone.

Location

In the picturesque hillside of San Antonio, off the beaten path

A big part of this boutique hotel's appeal is its location. Here, guests are off the beaten path and removed from the hubbub of San Antonio. Not so far, though, that it's not accessible by foot or a quick drive. Previous guests have noted that the walk to town is long, but doable. The Sunset Strip is 10 minutes away by car or 35 minutes by foot. With few options within quick walking distance, save Can Ramonet restaurant (15-minute walk), previous guests have suggested that renting a car or taking a taxi is the best way to get around. The location lends itself to some pretty beautiful landscapes, too. Lounging poolside, guests have views of the hills. There is no direct beach access here, but there are beaches within a 10-minute drive or Port D'Es Torrent is just a 17-minute drive away.

Rooms

Rustic rooms with quirky decor and minibars

There are five different styles of rooms -- from Standard Double to the impressive two-bedroom superior suite, La Residencia. Touches that add character, such as terra-cotta tile floors, exposed wood-beam ceilings, and rocker-chic artwork can be found in all rooms. As rooms are individually styled, wooden furnishings, linens, and decor pieces vary; some have seating featuring yellow fabric with a safety-pin motif, Tiffany lamps, Remington typewriters, and blankets adorned with prints of photos (many of Tony Pike) and newspaper clippings. Minibars, safes, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and either iPod docks or record players are standard amenities. All rooms above the standard category have separate living areas, and many rooms have balconies and terraces furnished with chairs and a table -- some have loungers as well. Bathroom styles are similarly distinctive; some are adorned with Mediterranean-inspired tiles, while others are more subdued and lack ornate touches. All bathrooms have shower/tub combos, bathrobes, free Herbas de Ibiza bath products, hairdryers, and bidets. Be aware that rooms nearer to the pool and club may get some late-night noise.

Features

Pool, wellness services, and restaurant

Despite being a smaller property, Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel offers a substantial range of features. The pool, which overlooks the lush property and scenic hillside of San Antonio, is well-sized and surrounded by several round daybeds and umbrellas. The poolside bar provides snacks and drinks throughout the day, as well as happy hour on most days. The open-air Room 39 is the restaurant, which is open for dinner Monday through Saturday and hosts a well-reviewed roast on Sunday afternoons. For party-minded guests (or non-guests), the hotel also often has popular music- and dance-filled parties in their nightclub. As far as fitness amenities go, the hotel has a striking pink tennis court for guests to use. The hotel also offers what they've deemed "Rockovery", which is a way to recharge while on vacation. Adjacent to the tennis court is a large white canopy where guests can indulge in countless treatments, offered 24 hours a day. Options include massage treatments, beauty services such as manicures and pedicures, hair styling, and fitness classes such as yoga and Pilates -- which guests can do one-on-one or with a group. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but the connection can be spotty.
