Located a couple of blocks from Es Canar’s beach, the 99-room Hotel Anfora is a stylish upper-middle-range property with a relaxing atmosphere and competitive rates. Fresh from the 2017 renovations, rooms are chic and comfortable, equipped with furnished balconies, mini-fridges, electric kettles, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Open bathrooms are sleek and spotless, but some find that glass showers offer little privacy. The restaurant serves buffet breakfasts and a la carte dinners, while smaller bites and frozen drinks can be ordered at the pool bar. The outdoor spa has a hydrotherapy area and lots of space to unwind, and massages can be booked for a fee. Although there is no full kids’ club on-site, the game room, playground, and two pools keep children busy during the day. Families seeking something more bustling may prefer the Caribe Ibiza Hotel.
Scene
Stylish hotel better suited for those seeking some peace and quiet than for party animals
Housed in a plain white building similar to all other structures around it, Hotel Anfora doesn’t look like much from the outside. However, full renovations in mid-2017 gave the hotel a fresher, more contemporary feel than most of its competitors. All-white interiors are dotted with natural, untreated wood accents, which lend them a strong local feel, while soft lines and backlit elements are chic and minimalist. Despite its trendy look, the hotel is casual and quiet, with no entertainment program or full kids’ club, and just some music around one of the pools. The atmosphere, though, is relaxing rather than boring, and there is plenty of space for guests to unwind, including two spacious pool decks with loungers and cabanas, an outdoor spa area, and a lobby bar. The hotel’s fresh feel, quiet vibe, solid amenities, and adequate rates make it a great pick in Es Canar, but those wanting a lively resort with daily activities and all-inclusive packages may prefer the kid-friendly Invisa Hotel Ereso. Families on a tighter budget may want to compare rates at Es Cana Playa Apartments, featuring one- and two-bedroom apartments with terraces and kitchenettes, though decor is dated and amenities basic. For a little bit more money, the azuLine Hotel Atlantic also offers studios and apartments with cooking facilities and it has many more on-site amenities, including a kids’ club, fitness center, and seasonal entertainment.
Location
A couple of blocks from the beach, and walking distance to restaurants and shops
Hotel Anfora is located on a quiet street a couple of blocks from Es Canar’s main beach. There are several bars and shops selling beach gear down the street, and more dining, drinking, and shopping options can be found closer to the center, a five-minute walk from the property. One of the area’s top attractions, the Hippy Market, can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. Cala Nova -- a sandy beach a little north of the city center -- is just a 15-minute walk away, as are the beaches of Cala Martina and Calo des Gat. Es Canar is quieter than many other Ibiza towns, drawing families and couples looking to spend a relaxing vacation. The airport is a 35-minute drive away.
Rooms
Spacious, light rooms with stylish decor, great amenities, and balconies
Fully renovated in mid-2017, the hotel’s 99 rooms are similar in style to common areas: minimalist, contemporary, and fresh, with all-white decor and pops of black in accent pillows and bed runners. Recessed lighting placed strategically in crevices on headboards and under drawers are sleek touches, while wood-like tile floors add warmth. Furniture is simple, with clean lines and few ornaments, but all pieces have a touch of style here and there -- be it a natural wood accent or a modular concept. Big glass doors open to furnished balconies, but only a few units have sea views. In-room amenities are good for the price, and include free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, electric kettles, and flat-screen TVs. Air-conditioning is available in all rooms as well, as are USB charging points. Junior Suites and Suites are outfitted with espresso machines and higher-end toiletries. Bathrooms have an open design that may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but although the only thing separating the shower from the room is a clear glass screen, these are always located away from the bed area, allowing for some privacy.
Features
Two pools, outdoor spa, gym, playground, restaurant, and free parking
The two pools here are small but have big decks with many loungers, free cabanas, umbrellas, and free towel service. The one in the back is quieter, as it doesn’t get noise from a larger property with music and entertainment located across the street. On its deck, a hydrotherapy area with massage jets offers an outdoor spa experience, and massages are available in a cabin located inside the building. The gym is small and basic, but gets lots of sunlight and has enough equipment for a quick workout, including a treadmill, a stationary bike, an elliptical, and a resistance machine. The hotel also has a couple of perks for children, including a lounge with video games and an outdoor playground, but no full kids’ club. An on-site restaurant serves a solid buffet every morning -- complete with hot and cold options -- as well as a decent dinner menu that offers buffet starters and desserts, plus a la carte main dishes. Food generally gets good reviews, but many guests have found it somewhat overpriced. Smaller bites and food to share can be ordered at the pool bar, which also offers a sufficient drink menu. Outdoor parking is available free of charge, and there are two electric car charging stations for guest use.
