Hostal Valencia

First opened in 1964, family-run Hostal Valencia is a charming little property known for its lush gardens, serene vibe, clean rooms, and nice pool. It is housed in a typical Sant Antoni building with a white facade and green metal shutters opening onto skinny balconies with patio furniture. Interiors are homey and cozy, with a strong local feel and lots of details in common spaces -- eclectic wall art, tchotchke-lined shelves, patterned fabrics, and colorful paint. The sturdy wooden furniture and plush sofas in the lobby look taken straight from a traditional family home, and the cute white-and-green tiling covering the tiny front desk takes guests back to a bygone area. The hostel is not luxurious, but its local charm, solid amenities, quiet location near the beaches and nightlife, and friendly service make it a good pick for travelers on a budget.

Hostal Valencia is located on the corner of two quiet streets on the northern edge of Sant Antoni. This off-the-beaten-path location allows for quiet nights, but the property is within five to 10 minutes' easy walking distance of beaches, restaurants, bars, and the famous Sunset Strip/West End. There are a few average cafes within a couple of blocks from the hostel, but there is much more to choose from a little closer to the center. The main bus station and the ferry to Formentera and other parts of Ibiza are a 10- and 15-minute walk away, respectively. Ibiza Town and the airport can be reached in about 20 to 30 minutes by car.

Hostal Valencia has 21 air-conditioned rooms, many offering balconies and others overlooking the pool. Simple wooden furniture and thin bedspreads make for basic decor, but peach accent walls add some style. Although austerely decorated, rooms have surprisingly good amenities for a hostel, including flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are clean and cute, with mustard-colored tiling, half shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and basic toiletries in small sachets. Most rooms are large enough to fit a cot for a third guest, but a few bathrooms are a little tight. Units facing the pool have no balconies and are more expensive.

The pool, a small rectangle surrounded by loungers and plants, is the hostel’s best feature. It is quiet and peaceful, and offers a few tables for drinks and snacks, as well as a pool table. The deck is mostly empty during the morning, but is a popular spot for a quick afternoon dip after the beach. The on-site cafe has cute, cheerful decor in aquamarine and yellow tones, as well as a friendly atmosphere. Breakfast is served here or by the pool every morning (for a fee), and there is additional seating amid plants in the serene garden. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
