Hacienda Na Xamena, Ibiza

Lush gardens with palm trees and bougainvilleas, traditional Ibizan whitewashed buildings with ornate wooden doors, and stone Buddha statues greet guests to this remote property located amid pine tree woods and dramatic rocky cliffs that drop sharply into the clear Mediterranean waters. Though the property features a couple of family-friendly amenities -- such as pools and large rooms with sofa beds for additional guests -- the vibe here is mostly quiet and relaxing. Hacienda Na Xamena has been the background of dozens of fashion photo shoots, and it is common to see celeb guests relaxing by the pool or enjoying a quiet afternoon at the spa.

Asian-inspired details blend easily with the lovely traditional local architecture, making spaces appealing and modern without clashing with the typical Mediterranean scenery outside. Every common space and room has been designed to make the most of the stunning ocean and cliff views, and there are several terraces with lounge furniture from which guests can enjoy the unique vistas. Inside, thick stone walls, slanted ceilings with exposed wooden beams, and sturdy wooden furniture give the lobby a rustic-chic feel.

The hotel is located at the end of a narrow, winding road that runs through thick pine tree forests in northern Ibiza. There are a couple of large private homes nearby, but the area is remote and the nearest town, Port de Sant Miquel, is a 10-minute drive away. There, guests can find a nice bay with sandy shores, a few restaurants, a handful of bars, and some shops. Ibiza Town and the airport are both a 30-minute drive from the hotel, and party-oriented areas -- such as Sant Antoni de Portmany and Playa d’en Bossa -- can be reached in just over half an hour by car.

White furniture, wood accents, and light silver details create a chic yet rustic atmosphere in rooms. The focus here is on the stunning ocean views, and aside from furnished balconies or terraces, all units have floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the outdoors in. Upscale amenities are similar in all rooms and include flat-screen TVs, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. Bathrooms are large and appealing, with glass-enclosed showers overlooking the bedrooms, rain showerheads, and heated towel racks. Additionally, all rooms have jetted standalone tubs in the bedrooms placed next to the huge windows, looking out onto the ocean -- and some feature Turkish steam saunas. Eden Rooms also have plunge pools on the terraces, and Family Suites offer two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Although units are overall luxurious, some are showing wear and tear, and none have coffeemakers or sound systems.

Na Xamena offers three dining options, all of which serve tasty but pricey food. A solid breakfast buffet is served every morning by the pool at Cascadas Restaurant, and for lunch guests can choose from Eden Restaurant, which features several terraces with expansive views, or head to the poolside snack bar, serving cocktails, small bites, and tapas. 

The gym is small with floor-to-ceiling windows offering relaxing views, up-to-date machines, personal trainers, and group classes. There is also a tennis court for those who prefer to work out outdoors. Guests looking to spend a quiet day can choose from three pools, including an indoor one. With its cascading pools overlooking the ocean, the spa is considered the highlight here by many. It offers signature treatments, and indoor relaxation areas with Bali beds and private areas full of pillows. Gatherings and events can be accommodated in the beautiful outdoor amphitheater overlooking the ocean, or in the indoor meeting rooms. Wi-Fi and outdoor parking are available free of charge. The hotel also offers two private boats (one with a glass floor) for day trips.
