Area and hotel can be noisy in peak season
Located on a sandy beach in party-oriented Playa d’en Bosa, the budget (by Ibiza standards) Apartamentos Sal Rossa draws lots of vacationing young couples and groups. Within walking distance of the Ushuaia, Bora Bora, and Space nightclubs, the area can get rowdy during peak season, although it quiets down at other times of the year. Its 77 apartment-style rooms are clean, basic but pleasant, with separate bedrooms, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes that include stovetops, mini-fridges, and microwaves. Although most units have been upgraded, guests have complained about dated decor and thin walls in some of the units. There are such kid-friendly amenities as a children's pool and playground on the grounds, but Sal Rossa might not be the most family-focused place to stay in high season.
Scene
A budget-friendly property that attracts plenty of young party-hearties
Playa d’en Bossa went from being a family-friendly locale in the late 20th century to the nexus of Ibiza’s famous nightlife. Sal Rossa reflects this transformation, with child-friendly amenities such as a playground and a kids' pool but mostly 20- to 30-year-old guests drawn by the promise of wild nights out and a sandy beach to nurse a hangover, an image that holds mainly during a few peak-season weeks out of the year. The grounds are lush and well-maintained, with palm trees, bougainvillea, and flower beds lining clay-tile paths. A statue of a Buddha's face is placed in the center of a gurgling fountain, giving the lobby a serene feel, and the laminate floors, plastic wicker-style furniture, and gray front desk make the space brightly appealing. Renovated rooms have a similar feel, but other units, with their wooden furniture, look dated.
Location
On a sandy beach in Playa d’en Bossa, within walking distance of several nightclubs
The hotel is located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Playa d’en Bossa, an area between the airport and Ibiza town. There is a narrow but sandy beach outside the back entrance of Sal Rossa, known for being part of the longest beach in Ibiza. A supermarket is within walking distance, along with a few fast-food joints, but guests will have to take a bus or drive to Ibiza to find more varied dining choices. The area’s main draw is its close proximity to some of the island’s most famous nightclubs, including Bora Bora, Ushuaïa, and Space, all within walking distance. There is a bus stop a couple of blocks from the hotel, and the town of Ibiza is a 10-minute drive north. The airport is within a five-minute drive of Sal Rossa.
Rooms
Bright, spacious apartments with separate bedrooms and kitchenettes
The 77 apartments, which come with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, are clean and spacious, with separate bedrooms with two twin beds pushed together, and a sofa bed in the living area. Laminate floors, white-and-blue decor, and blond wooden accents lend a contemporary if generic look. Large sliding windows opening onto furnished balconies let in lots of light. Not all units have been updated, and some apartments have old-fashioned wooden furniture with dated prints on bedspreads and curtains, and beige floor tiling. Kitchenettes come with stovetops, mini-fridges, microwaves, sinks, and a wide array of utensils. Bathrooms include showers (no tubs), hairdryers, basic toiletries but not much storage space.
Features
A small oceanfront pool, a snack bar, a kids' pool and playground
The most popular feature at Sal Rossa is the pool. It's small but clean, and offers ocean views and loungers, and the poolside snack bar is a popular spot for a drink. The bar also offers a food menu, a pool table, and computers that guests can use for a fee. Down a few steps from the pool deck is the beach, a sandy stretch that can get busy during peak season. The property is popular with young partiers, but Sal Rossa does offer a few kid-friendly amenities, such as a children's pool and a outdoor playground. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
