Heritage House Hotel
259 Main St

In the heart of Hyannis’ Main Street tourist district, the two-and-a-half-pearl Heritage House Hotel is within walking distance of the town’s many restaurants, shops, and bars. The style throughout is simple -- some spaces are more modern, while others are dated and bland. The list of amenities in each of its 143 rooms includes free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs -- some even have private balconies. Unfortunately, quality of the rooms varies from one building to the next. For a hotel in this category, there are a nice amount of communal features, including two pools, a hot tub, and a lively bar, but on-site dining options are limited. Check rates at the slightly older Tidewater Inn for a budget alternative with many of the same amenities.

Hyannis Holiday Motel
131 Ocean St

Directly across from the Hyannis Harbor, the budget Hyannis Holiday Motel has location going for it -- it's a convenient base for day trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and is also a short walk to Main Street, with its restaurants and shops. It’s an older, family-run motel, and amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, and free coffee and pastries in the morning, Wi-Fi, and parking. Its 72 rooms, which include one- and two-bedroom suites, are spacious, and many have views of the harbor. Carpeting and bedding have been updated, but decor is dated, and bathrooms are small. Given its reasonable rates in a high-price area, the Hyannis Holiday Motel is a solid choice. But budget travelers could also consider the comparably priced Heritage House Hotel -- it has a lively bar/restaurant, and is in the Hyannis Main Street tourist district.

Cape Cod Harbor House Inn
119 Ocean St

Cape Cod Harbor House Inn is a small, family-run motel with 19 rooms spread over two stories. The harbor is located directly across from the budget motel, making it a convenient place to stay for tourists using the Hy-Line ferry service to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and fully equipped kitchenette. Breakfast is included in the room rates, and there is free Wi-Fi and parking in the motel’s parking lot. As an alternative, budget travelers looking for a property with a pool could try Hyannis Travel Inn.

SeaCoast Inn
33 Ocean St

This two-pearl hotel has 25 rooms and is located within walking distance of Hyannis Harbor and Main Street, a local shopping, dining, and entertainment area. The hotel sells ferry tickets to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and provides guests with beach accessories and toys. Rooms are spacious with dated decor and small bathrooms, though they have the option of a kitchenette and plenty of furniture. The Hyannis Travel Inn is a comparable option with extra amenities like a pool and hot tub.

International Inn and Suites on Cape Cod
662 Main St

Located within a five-minute walk of downtown Hyannis’ restaurants, shops, and museums, the one thing International Inn and Suites on Cape Cod has going for it is its location. Unfortunately, the second most notable attribute of this hotel is its decor, which seems modeled after kitschy, ‘80s-era honeymoon hotels (except without any of the irony that normally accompanies kitsch). Standard amenities in each of its 141 rooms include mini-fridges, small flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning. The two-pearl property also features an outdoor pool and a large restaurant with a sometimes lively bar scene. However, guests complain of frequent, unexplained closures of both. For a similarly appointed, modern alternative, check rates at the nearby Heritage House Hotel.

Best Western Cape Cod Hotel
1470 Iyannough Rd

A major renovation in mid-2016 gave the budget Best Western Cape Cod Hotel's public spaces a fresh and modern look -- it's a step up from many other motor-court properties on Cape Cod. The 104 rooms also sport spiffy decor, with new furniture, carpeting, and mattresses. They’re spacious and include microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi, although bathrooms are still dated and small. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate, and the hotel also has a fitness center  and a large indoor pool with a whirlpool and sauna. The hotel is not within walking of most attractions, but Main Street is a five-minute drive from the hotel. Be aware that it's a 10- to 15-minute drive to area beaches. Rates are attractive, but there are better budget deals available, such as the Hyannis Holiday Motel, which overlooks Hyannis Harbor and is walking distance to Main Street.

Cape Codder Resort & Spa
1225 Iyannough Rd, Route 132 & Bearse's Way

The 261-room Cape Codder Resort & Spa is a mid-range property with beachy decor particularly suited to families with children. Located in the heart of the mid-Cape, there is no easy beach access, but an on-site indoor wave pool, outdoor heated pool, spa, several restaurants, and daily activities from yoga to movies under the stars make it easy to be entertained on-site. Rooms all have a beach-inspired style and free Wi-Fi, though the property does have some non-renovated rooms with dated decor and notable wear and tear. In the off-season, this property is quite affordable, but during the height of summer, some guests complain about the rates being on the high side. Guests looking for a different sort of Cape Cod resort could try The Cove at Yarmouth, which doesn’t have a spa but has spacious town houses and lots of on-site sporting areas.

Anchor In Hotel
1 South St, On Hyannis Harbor

Located on the Hyannis Harbor waterfront, Anchor In Hotel is a lovely, mid-range hotel with plenty of boutique charm. The decor is a textbook New England inn, where crown molding, upscale furnishings, and warm colors abound. The list of common amenities -- including a heated outdoor pool, cozy reading library, and free continental breakfast -- is solid for a three-pearl property. Each of its 42 rooms feels like a high-class homey retreat, and all include free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs. Although lacking a sandy beachfront, its location on the water provides excellent views of the marina and harbor. The nearby Bluegreen Vacations The Soundings, Ascend Resort Collection is a similar three-pearl alternative with a beautiful beach, though rates will be higher.
