Scene
A modern hotel that hosts many hospital visitors and business travelers
The hotel completed a renovation in 2014 that gave it an attractive lobby with warm and inviting decor. There's striking zigzag carpeting in neutral tones, smart sofas and armchairs with mid-century modern touches, contemporary fixtures, and large windows. A small lobby bar and lounge area with high-top, communal tables is tucked into a corner. It’s not a huge lobby, so it can get rather crowded at peak registration times. Its proximity to Texas Medical Center brings lots of hospital patients and families to the hotel, but it’s also close enough to Rice University, NRG Stadium, and to the convention center downtown to attract a diverse mix of leisure and business travelers. It tends to be more crowded during the week, when rates are generally higher.
Location
Within walking distance of Texas Medical Center, far from downtown Houston
The Wyndham is centrally located within walking distance of many facilities at the Texas Medical Center, but it's far removed from downtown Houston, so it's less convenient for tourists. Some restaurants also are a brief walk away, including a Pizza Hut and Burger King next to the hotel. - Four-minute walk to the Texas Children’s Hospital
Rooms
Contemporary and well-equipped, but decor lacks energy
The modern guest rooms feature tasteful but rather generic decor that’s commonly seen in other full-service chain hotels, done with lackluster earth tones. Walls are cream except for brown accent walls behind the beds that sport bright, white duvets. The grayish-brown carpet has subtle cream stripes, and the dark-brown wood furniture includes headboards and desks with office chairs. Units offer enough space for comfort, and all come with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers with free coffee and tea, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi, but there are no safes and microwaves aren't standard. Larger Deluxe rooms and Suites are designed for extended-stay guests, with fully equipped kitchens that include cooktops, microwaves, wet bars, dishwashers, dishes, and granite counters. Suites also have sleeper sofas, and many have separate living rooms. Bathrooms are a bit small and disappointing, especially those in spacious Suites. They have granite vanities and ho-hum shower/tub combos with white tiling. Units are generally tidy and well-maintained. Views of the city skyline from some rooms can be quite nice.
