Sheraton Suites Houston Near The Galleria

With 14 floors, this upper-middle-range hotel has a standard chain hotel appearance from the outside. Despite the location across from the freeway, traffic noises can’t be heard inside the hotel. Interiors have a modern feel with wooden designs around the front desk, and earth-tone furnishings, flat-screen TVs, and scenic murals in lobby lounges. Renovations have been ongoing since 2013 when management installed new carpeting and furniture in rooms and updated the Sage restaurant, Wild Plum bar, and meeting spaces. Another shuttle will also be added to the hotel’s fleet to meet guests’ demands. The 8,000 square feet of meeting space at this hotel primarily appeals to business travelers, but the convenient location by the Texas Medical Center and The Galleria also attracts tourists. 

This hotel is located on a street that runs along the Interstate 610, which is blocked by a tall hedge. Behind the hotel are shops in a strip mall and in five minutes walking distance is The Galleria that offers hundreds of high-end stores and 50 restaurants. A free shuttle takes travelers within a three-mile radius of the hotel. Sports fans can reach Minute Maid Park, NRG Park, and the Houston Toyota Center in 15 to 20 minutes by car. This central location is also within 15 minutes driving distance to the Museum District, George R. Brown Convention Center, and Texas Medical Center. The drive to William P. Hobby Airport takes 20 minutes. George Bush International Airport is about 30 minutes away by car. 

This all-suite hotel differs from other Sheraton properties that offer rooms. Suites have a business vibe with classic furnishings and sliding doors that separate bedrooms from sitting areas where there are blue sofas, desks, and wet bars with mini-fridges and coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee. Brown patterned carpeting, blue upholstered headboards, dark furniture, and beige walls create an elegant and simple look. Windows have uninteresting views of the Galleria area. Traditional Suites offer king, queen, or double beds and Deluxe Suites have sofa beds. Guests of Club Suites and SPG members have access to the 15th-floor Sheraton Lounge with free perks that include breakfast, computer access, evening snacks, a cash bar, and sitting area. Every suite offers turndown service, air-conditioning, irons, hairdryers, bathrobes, and slippers. Standard-looking bathrooms feature external sinks and shower/tub combos.

This hotel appeals mainly to business travelers, offering nine modernly designed meeting rooms for small 14-person conferences or 280-person banquets in the ballroom. Starwood Preferred Guest members and guests staying in Club Rooms have access to the Sheraton Club for informal meetings. The 24-hour Link@Sheraton business center is in the lobby with PC computers and a printer. Also open 24 hours a day, the gym offers modern machines, free weights, chilled towels, and core equipment. Outside is a nice -- albeit small -- pool and hot tub with lounge chairs on the deck. The Sage restaurant has American fare with a Texas twist -- steaks or jalapenos and cheese mashed potatoes -- on the menu. With a warm and casual ambiance, the Wild Plum Lounge has a large wine list, appetizers, and cocktails. Open until midnight, the mini market has an ATM, snacks, and chilled beverages. Underground secured parking (valet and self-serve) is available, but guests often complain about the fees.
