Bottom Line

Opened in 2014, the 74-room Comfort Suites near
Westchase on Beltway 8 is a mid-range chain hotel that's a bit far from the downtown area, but close to many corporate headquarters, attracting mainly business travelers. The property gets glowing
reviews from past guests who commend the cleanliness of the rooms and the
generous buffet breakfast, which is included in rates. Spacious
guest rooms have separate living areas and extras like microwaves and
coffeemakers. Other property highlights include an outdoor
pool and a fitness center. The hotel’s
location next to the Sam Houston Parkway means that traffic noise can be an
issue, however. Travelers might also want to consider the comparable Sleep Inn & Suites I-45/Airtex.

Scene

Newly constructed mid-range hotel popular with business travelers

An outpost of the Comfort Suites brand, this property has a block-like exterior that looks like other cookie-cutter chain hotels. The interiors, however, hold a
few surprises: The lobby is bright and spacious thanks to exceptionally
high ceilings, while decor is uncluttered, simple, and pleasant, with attractive
wooden flooring, pale yellow walls, and soft pink and blue upholstered sofas
and armchairs. The location next to a highway in an unattractive part of town
far from the downtown area does not make this an ideal place to stay for
leisure travelers, but the headquarters of many companies and
corporations are located in the area, which makes this a popular choice
with business travelers.

Location

Located next to a highway, close to many company headquarters

The hotel is located in Houston’s Westchase district next to the
Sam Houston Parkway. The offices of companies like Microsoft, National Oilwell
Varco, Halliburton, Jacobs Engineering, ABB Inc., and Chevron, as well as many
others, are all within a 10-minute drive, making this a convenient rest stop for business travelers. Located next door is a small shopping center with an attached medical
center and pharmacy. It’s a 45-minute drive to reach downtown, but Chinatown is
just a five-minute drive from here. PlazAmericas Shopping Center is a 13-minute drive away, and The Galleria, Texas’ largest shopping center, is about a 20-minute drive. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is about an hour away.

Rooms

Spacious, comfortable rooms with separate seating areas

Rooms are spacious and pleasantly decorated in a simple and elegant style. A neutral color palette of beiges, grays, and browns is paired with sleek, dark wood furniture, while soft lighting illuminates the spaces. All rooms have a partitioned seating area with a large sleeper sofa as well as amenities that include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, work desks with ergonomic chairs, hairdryers, iron and ironing boards, and a recharging device with AC and USB outlets. Bathrooms have the same minimalist and simple style, with faux wood tile flooring and spacious walk-in
showers. Note, some guests have issues with ambient noise coming
from the nearby highway or neighboring guest rooms, which lack good soundproofing.

Features

Free buffet breakfast, happy hour twice a week, outdoor pool, and fitness center

The buffet breakfast included in the room rate
gets enthusiastic reviews from guests for its quality and variety of options,
which includes cereals, eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, pastries, bagels, and fruit. Guests are invited to take part in happy hour, during which beer and
wine is served, two evenings a week. The outdoor swimming pool is small and
does not offer much privacy due to its proximity to the parking lot and
main road. There are several other convenient guest amenities available, including
a coin-operated washer and dryer, a coffee station and small store that are open 24-hours, a fitness center, a business center with two computers, a meeting room, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
