Articles Mentioning Budget

Half Moon Motel

The budget Galaxy Inn (formerly the Half Moon Motel) is worthy of consideration for budget-minded travelers who want to stay near the airport and central Los Angeles attractions. Located just off Interstate 405 near downtown Culver City, the motor court-style, 26-room property has very limited amenities, but on-site parking and Wi-Fi throughout are free. Guest rooms are clean, comfortable, and come equipped with microwaves and mini-fridges, but there are no coffeemakers. Rates are among the lowest in an area, but the lack of amenities lends itself to short stays. For a step up, the budget Super 8 Los Angeles/Culver City Area offers clean and modern rooms, along with more amenities like free breakfast and a pool.

Foghorn Harbor Inn Hotel

Location is the biggest asset at the two-pearl Foghorn Harbor Inn Hotel. It’s situated on Mother’s Beach in a peaceful area of Marina Del Rey, within walking distance of Venice Beach and restaurants. The 23-room, family-run hotel has a cheerful vibe, with its clean and comfortable guest rooms decorated in bright colors. Many units have beach views from their balconies or patios, and they’re equipped with mini-fridges, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi. Freebies include continental breakfast, parking, and transfers to Los Angeles International Airport. Rates are competitive but not inexpensive. For a more modern chain hotel, consider the nearby Hilton Garden Inn Los Angeles Marina Del Rey, but expect to pay more.

Park Plaza Suites

The two-and-a-half-pearl Park Plaza Suites has a great location, just a minute’s walk from a beach and the upmarket town’s marina, but that might not be enough to make up for its poor guest feedback. Past guests have noted that the hotel is far from clean, and that its 51 rooms, although sizable and with flat-screen TVs, are dated and can be poorly maintained. Although the hotel doesn’t have a pool, it does have a small gym and hot tub, and guests get a free, simple breakfast. Travelers looking for somewhere cleaner and better-maintained may want to check out the nearby Melia Marbella Banus.

Hotel Britannia

The lower-middle-range Hotel Britannia offers good value for money near the historic city of Sorrento. Sea and Mount Vesuvius views are gorgeous from many rooms and a great rooftop terrace, although there’s no pool. Still, good features here include a charming furnished garden, 24-hour bar, free continental breakfasts, and on-site parking (a rarity in Sorrento). The 25 blue-and-white rooms are simply outfitted, but well-maintained, with AC, small flat-screen TVs, and balconies — some with sensational bay views. Walks to Sorrento’s center take around 15 minutes, plus busses outside run downtown and to beaches. More central and with a pool, Hotel Villa Maria is a good (but shabbier) budget alternative.
