Aviator Hotel Anchorage

Aviator Hotel Anchorage is a two-and-a-half-pearl hotel in downtown Anchorage. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been well-maintained. Sure, the new owners are trying to make updates, but they took over in 2012 and the pool and helipad still aren’t completed. A walkable downtown location, low rates, and a cafe with live music during the week are the saving graces for the property. It’s the 250 rooms that need the most love as guests have reported odors and cleanliness issues. Microwaves and mini-fridges are a welcome touch, and many guests choose the extended-stay option. The nearby Clarion Suites Downtown might be more ideal for some, as it has a pool, gym, and contemporary guest rooms.

Hotel Atlantis

The Hotel Atlantis is a solid choice for travelers seeking modern accommodations for a reasonable rate who don’t mind a 10-minute tram ride to the city center. The two-and-a-half-pearl property is located in boho-chic De Pijp, location with sidewalk cafes, boutiques, and the open-air Albert Cuyp Market. Its 45 guest rooms are contemporary and tidy, with flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and some have shared or private balconies or terraces, but all lack AC and mini-fridges. Features are limited to a continental breakfast for an extra charge, and free Wi-Fi throughout. The Hotel Fita offers free breakfast and is within a short walk of both the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, but room rates can run a bit higher.
