Est Hotel Paris

The two-pearl Est Hotel Paris is an affordable Right Bank option for budget-conscious travelers that’s within a short walk of Canal Saint-Martin’s hip bistros, cafes, and boutiques. The property’s 83 guest rooms have a simple, functional feel, but they sport bright colors to enliven the look. There’s no AC — a considerable drawback — and units lack kettles, but all have flat-screen TVs, desks, and free Wi-Fi. Facilities are limited, but there’s a decent-quality continental breakfast for an extra charge. Travelers who want a more upscale stay might consider the nearby Hotel Soft.

Hotel Continental, BW Premier Collection

The two-and-a-half-pearl Hotel Continental Venice is located on the Grand Canal, a three-minute walk from Santa Lucia Station. It’s a classic spot, for sure, though some wear and tear is visible throughout the property. The 93 small rooms show off the hotel’s traditional Italian look, with details like romantic scrollwork, striped wallpaper, and wooden furnishings. Superior Rooms offer canal views, though we spotted scuffed furniture and walls. The historic 15th-century hotel — a collection of multiple buildings — has one slow, small elevator and inconveniently long, winding corridors. Wining and dining at the canal-side restaurant is certainly a romantic extra, though the terrace seating charge is a major bummer. For something more modern nearby, Hotel Carlton is a pricier, but decidedly classier, option.

Hotel La Siesta

Hotel la Siesta is a down-to-earth hotel in the heart of Old Mazatlan’s beachfront tourist district. Each of the 58 rooms is utilitarian and all include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning. The alfresco restaurant, small outdoor pool, and charming garden courtyard all add a good bit of value here, helping to make this a reasonably solid budget option just across from the beach. While it lacks the same historic charm, the pricier City Express Mazatlan offers similar amenities plus a convenient location in the heart of the touristy Golden Zone.

Hotel Windsor

Hotels in Copenhagen are usually pricey, but budget properties like Hotel Windsor give travelers an affordable place to stay, but with little in the way of perks. Like many others in this category, the two-pearl property is quaint. The 63 rooms are private and come with flat-screen TVs and attractive sinks. However, with shared bathrooms, no air-conditioning, and thin walls, it’s not an ideal arrangement for all. A free breakfast and Wi-Fi are the extent of the amenities. While a location in Copenhagen’s city center is fabulous, no elevator to the hotel’s reception on the third floor can be a drag. For travelers who don’t want to share a bathroom, consider Somandshjemmet Bethel which also offers a free breakfast, public computers, and canal views.
