La Gran Tortuga

La Gran Tortuga is a 10-room budget property that feels like a cross between a hotel and a hostel. Like a hostel, La Gran Tortuga has simple, unfussy accommodations and affordable nightly rates that attract backpackers, school groups, and other budget travelers. However, like a hotel, the property has private, air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms and hot water. Whatever you want to call it, La Gran Tortuga offers excellent value. It’s located within walking distance of downtown Puerto Villamil and the beach, has free Wi-Fi, serves a tasty daily breakfast buffet, and has on-site laundry services. La Gran Tortuga’s owners are incredibly hospitable and are always willing to drive guests around the island or help them arrange tours and excursions. Just note that they don’t speak much English. Travelers looking for a more conventional hostel with shared rooms and bathrooms might prefer Caleta Iguana, while those looking for something a bit for upscale should check out La Casa de Marita — both of which are beachfront.

Campanile Paris 15 – Tour Eiffel

A 15-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, the Campanile Paris 15 – Tour Eiffel is a bare-bones property in a convenient location. The 76-room hotel is on a quiet street in the 15th Arrondissement, with restaurants, and the metro nearby — a good thing, considering you’ll need it to reach most of Paris’ blockbuster sights. Rooms are very basic and small, with little room to maneuver around the beds, and almost completely lack decoration; bathrooms are tiny. Still, this has the lowest base rates in the neighborhood, so for the budget-conscious only looking for a place to lay their heads, it may be a good choice. However, those willing to pay somewhat more have several better options, including the Hotel Korner Eiffel, which has significantly more style and a more pleasant atmosphere in an equally good location.

Siesta Suites Hotel

Siesta Suites is a small, 20-room hotel that’s a simple alternative to Cabo San Lucas’ sprawling all-inclusive resorts. The property has a budget vibe that’s best for unpretentious travelers who value location over style, as the marina, bars, and nightlife are within a five-minute walk. All 20 colorful rooms include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and cable TV; upgraded suites add separate living areas plus kitchens/kitchenettes. Guests seeking more common amenities — beyond just the hotel’s tiny sundeck and bar — will need to look elsewhere. For a bit more money, the nearby Tesoro Los Cabos offers modern rooms and an extensive list of resort-style amenities including several restaurants and a pool.

Ann Arbor Regent Hotel & Suites

The two-and-a-half-pearl Ann Arbor Regent Hotel & Suites is an independently-operated, family-owned property that offers a comfortable stay at reasonable rates. Located just off Interstate 94 between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, it’s a short drive to the universities and to other area attractions. Highlights include free breakfast and parking, a fitness center, and a game room, but there’s no full-service restaurant/bar on-site, and the indoor pool is small. Its 125 guest rooms are comfortable, but they lack personality. Microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi are standard amenities. Travelers looking for stay with a nice pool and on-site restaurant can try Hilton Garden Inn, but rates can be higher.
