Hostal Illes Pitiuses
The Hostal Illes Pitiuses is a value-oriented, family-run hotel positioned on a main road in the center of Formentera. Its central location is a real asset for those looking to explore the island, with almost everything within a 15-minute drive. All 25 guest rooms are certainly dated with tatty furniture and limited amenities, but are clean and open to balconies or terraces. There’s an all-day restaurant with a pleasant rear terrace, and it’s also one of the few of the island’s hotels open all year. Those looking for a no-frills, budget-friendly base are unlikely to be disappointed, though for cheap and modern accommodation closer to beaches, check out the Apartamentos Sabina Playa, next to the ferry port.
Yosemite View Lodge
A 25-minute drive from Yosemite National Park’s west entrance, the 335-room Yosemite View Lodge is in a prime location, and a beautiful one, with multiple pools and hot tubs overlooking the Merced River. The interiors are a different story, and the room decor is beyond dated, but all have kitchenettes and flat-screen TVs. There’s a full-service restaurant, as well as a seasonal pizza joint, and kids will appreciate the game room, but there’s a fee for Wi-Fi. For a basic two-and-a-half-pearl hotel with no free perks, the prices are high (due to the prime location). Travelers looking to save should check out the Cedar Lodge, a nearby no-frills sister property that’s much cheaper (but about 10 minutes farther away from the park).
Hostel Amigo
This two-pearl, 17-room hostel is geared toward backpackers on a budget. Located in the heart of Mexico City’s historic center, it’s a stone’s throw from numerous shops, restaurants, monuments, and metro stations. Spacious dormitories are available alongside both Single or Double Rooms, which have private bathrooms, though the dorm mattresses are plastic and not comfy. All rooms are spacious and clean, though they lack air-conditioning and Wi-Fi. The hostel has a full kitchen, and a free breakfast buffet is served daily. There are plenty of communal areas for socializing, including a chilled-out bar, cozy living room, and dining room with a pool table. Wi-Fi is free in public areas. As an alternative, travelers might also like the nearby Hotel Principal, which has its own restaurant.
