WoodSpring Suites San Antonio Fort Sam

This budget property is situated about a 20-minute drive outside of San Antonio. There’s not much in the immediate area, though it’s built just off of the I-35 North, making it easy to commute across the city. The hotel offers bland suites with kitchens and many guests complain of cleanliness issues. Nevertheless, the property attracts extended stays, offering low rates that draw some repeat guests. Simple amenities include free parking, laundry facilities, and vending machines stocked with snacks and drinks. For an alternative budget option with more features, check out La Quinta Inn San Antonio Lackland which has two pools and free hot breakfast for just slightly higher rates.

Super 8 by Wyndham Black Mountain

This budget motel from the Super 8 chain is situated in the sleepy town of Black Mountain, about a 20-minute drive to the much more bustling Asheville. It’s a worn and tired property in need of updates and many guests complain of cleanliness and maintenance issues here. There’s also not much in terms of amenities beyond a small seasonal outdoor pool (closed for the winter on our visit) and a free basic breakfast that’s served in the lobby dining room. Rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi, plus some have couches, while small en-suite bathrooms have shower/tub combos. Budget travelers might want to consider some alternatives in nearby Asheville, such as the Super 8 Asheville or the BEST WESTERN of Asheville Biltmore East, which are fresher and cleaner.
