Disney’s All-Star Music Resort

An affordable lower-middle-range option, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort is one of three All-Star themed resorts at the southern end of the Disney complex. The disney-going families that stay here are willing to tolerate longer shuttle rides and (some) small rooms for cheaper rates. There are food court dining, a guitar-shaped pool, and free shuttles to the parks and Orlando’s airport. Its 1,604 guest rooms are generally clean and well maintained and come with mini-fridges (and microwaves in some). Family Suites sleep up to six people. For another affordable option, travelers could consider Disney’s Pop Century Resort, which is even closer to the parks.

Hollywood Beach Suites and Hotel

A laid-back, two-and-a-half-pearl property, Hollywood Beach Suites Hotel is set just back from Hollywood Beach itself. Interiors, best described as “thrift store chic,” have a cheap-and-cheery vibe. The hotel’s 39 rooms are basic and inviting, featuring punchy colors and practical kitchenettes. Rooms are small but offer good value for families and groups who don’t plan to spend much time inside. Aside from its great location near the beach, the hotel’s main draw is its well-liked restaurant, which serves up affordable tacos and a buzzing atmosphere — although the nighttime noise it creates can be an annoyance for some guests. Travelers looking for more on-site features may want to compare rates with Neptune Hollywood Beach Hotel, which also has a pool, though the design is a bit less charming.

Leonardo Hotel Barcelona Las Ramblas

Leonardo Hotel Barcelona Las Ramblas is a three-pearl hotel with a contemporary boutique feel. The El Raval location is trendy, and it’s a little under a five-minute walk from Las Ramblas and the Liceu Metro stop. For a mid-range property, the rooftop splash pool is a surprise and has a poolside bar. There’s no restaurant, but the hotel serves an ample hot-and-cold breakfast buffet for a fee. The 111 rooms have a colorful, modern look, and all come with air-conditioning, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Some rooms are a little small. Rates can be a real bargain, but travelers who’d prefer to stay in the chic El Born district may want to consider the Chic & Basic Born Hotel — just be prepared for a higher price tag.

Ramada by Wyndham Denver International Airport

The two-and-a-half-pearl Ramada Denver International Airport is a solid choice for any traveler passing through the nearby airport. It’s located in an isolated area and there isn’t much within walking distance, but the all-suites property has a pleasant lobby and breakfast area where a free hot breakfast buffet is offered. There’s also a free round-trip airport shuttle that runs 24/7. Its 83 Suites are spacious and nicely furnished with sleeper sofas, coffeemakers, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Other highlights include a fitness center, whirlpool, laundry room, and free parking and Wi-Fi throughout. It offers some of the best rates among area airport hotels, but travelers looking for a step up in amenities can check out Hampton Inn Denver-International Airport, which has a pool.

Best Western Plus Yosemite Way Station Motel

The two-and-a-half-pearl Best Western Plus Yosemite Way Station Motel offers a comfortable stay in Mariposa, a small town about an hour outside Yosemite National Park. Several restaurants are within walking distance of the property, and while its 77 guest rooms are comfortable and have warm decor, the overall look is a bit dark and a touch dated. All units come well-equipped with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Features include a free hot breakfast buffet, small seasonal outdoor pool and whirlpool, fitness center, and a laundry room. Travelers looking for a similar stay that has a cafe and bar can check out the two-pearl Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort, which also features a diverse choice of accommodations and a day spa.

Roatan Bed & Breakfast Apartments

Roatan Bed & Breakfast Apartments is a two-and-a-half-pearl hotel above West End, with awesome views of Roatan’s northern coast. Its five Honduran-pine rooms are rustic and quaint, with king, double, or twin beds, TVs, fans, and ocean or jungle views (two have kitchenettes). Rooms can get hot, though, and only one is air-conditioned. The hotel’s a 10-minute walk (or six-minute drive) up a gnarly road from the beach, and it can be tough to find taxis willing to drop off guests. The hotel has an amazing rooftop patio and all stays include a delicious breakfast and Wi-Fi. There are also yoga classes for a fee. Travelers wanting more frills like a restaurant and a dive shop might check out Splash Inn, though rates will be a bit higher.
