Smart Stay Hostel Munich City

Smart Stay Hostel Munich City is a budget youth hostel that sleeps 62 guests. Its prices and location are great, but it also has an unfortunate bed bug problem. Single and Double Rooms and beds in dorms are available, but don’t expect little extras found in modern hostels, such as privacy curtains and reading lamps — only the bare minimum, lockers and linens, are provided. Unfortunately, countless past guests have complained of bed bugs over the years, and at the time of our research (in 2018), the problem had seemingly not been fixed. That said, facilities aren’t bad, and include a communal kitchen, a bar with cocktail service, and a free buffet breakfast along with Wi-Fi, parking, and foosball and pool tables. Still, the bed bug issue is too much to overlook, so budget travelers are better off staying at a hostel with fewer complaints, such as Wombat’s Munich.

Euro Youth Hotel

Euro Youth Hotel is a hostel-style property that caters to a young, party crowd. The two-pearl property is outside the immediate city center, but it’s still within walking distance of most attractions and public transportation. Its 58 rooms range from dorms with shared bathrooms to private rooms with flat-screen TVs, and en-suite bathrooms. Features here include a breakfast buffet (included in some rates), discounted parking, walking tours, and a lively bar that has weekly events and a fun crowd. However, deposits for room keys, hairdryers, lockers, and other small items is a bit bothersome, and the hotel is not air-conditioned. Travelers might also want to check out Arthotel Munich, where all rooms have private baths and include breakfast — for slightly higher rates.

AMBER ECONTEL HOTEL Berlin-Charlottenburg

Located outside the city center in a residential area, this budget hotel built in 1983 is showing its age. Interiors have a dated look, and except for the upgraded Business Rooms, most of the 205 guest rooms are in need of refurbishment. Standard in-room amenities are limited to flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and old-fashioned safes, while the Business Rooms have extras like minibars and Senseo coffee machines. Notable downsides are the wet room-style bathrooms with only shower curtains acting as dividers. The buffet breakfast is charged extra, but coffee and tea are free in the lobby. On-site features include a restaurant, bar, and two conference rooms. For a much more stylish yet budget-friendly option, travelers could consider Generator Berlin Mitte, which also has a more central location.

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

The 1,920-room Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is one of three themed Disney budget properties within the resort. It offers the convenience of being within the park, though rooms are basic, dated, and lack many frills. Perks include free bus service and expanded park hours. The kid-ready sports theme carries throughout the hotel, with oversized balls, bats, helmets, and rackets all over. One of the outdoor pools is shaped like a baseball diamond, and the other features huge surfboards. Indoor and outdoor games keep guests entertained, and food court dining is child friendly. For the adults, there’s a bar by the pool. Budget-conscious travelers who aren’t into sports could check out the other two Disney budget properties, the All-Star Movie Resort or the All-Star Music Resort.

Hotel Maria Mixteca

The 15-room Hotel Maria Mixteca is a value option situated in downtown La Crucecita. Rooms are bright and basic, including air-conditioning and TVs, and some have balconies. Frills are few here, and limited to a restaurant and bar serving traditional Mexican cuisine infused with local flavors for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are a handful of common areas for guests to use, but features are otherwise nonexistent. The location is ideal for those who want the best starting point for exploring Huatulco on a budget. Travelers looking to be closer to the beach should consider Camino Real — it’s a more sophisticated alternative, though rates will be higher.

Ses Eufabietes

Ses Eufabietes is a budget property set among pine trees and forests in Formentera. The location is relatively remote, though Mitjorn Beach is a three-minute walk away. The 30 apartments are mostly plain with standard furniture and decent amenities like kitchenettes, outdoor spaces, and free Wi-Fi. The pool area includes a relaxing solarium and poolside snack bar. The on-site restaurant offers both buffet and a la carte options, though breakfast costs extra. There’s also a supermarket that sells a wide range of products for any last minute emergencies. Other outside areas like the tennis court and playground look a bit run down. Travelers may also consider nearby Hotel Casbah Formentera, a more charming Moroccan-themed hotel with similar rates.
