Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio-Downtown/Market Square

The budget Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio-Downtown/Market Square is a great value for those who don’t want to pay the price of a River Walk hotel, but still want to be close to downtown attractions. One main draw is free parking, which is hard to find in the area, though the lot does occasionally fill up. The 108 generic rooms are well-maintained and spacious, with free in-room movies, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, plus microwaves. Solid features include an impressive free breakfast with hot and cold items, free Wi-Fi, an indoor swimming pool, a small fitness center, and laundry facilities for guests. Although there are no restaurant or bar on-site, there are a grocery store right across the street and some restaurants nearby. It’s worth looking at rates for the more central Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio.

Rome River Inn

The Rome River Inn is a two-and-a-half pearl inn located in a residential corner of central Rome. Situated across two floors in a typical apartment building near the river, the 11 rooms are surprisingly spacious with giant beds and bright, modern decor. One of the suites has a whirlpool tub for two. The large rooms come at the expense of common areas, which are limited to small and simple nooks for free breakfast and coffee. However, the location on the edge of the historic center and across the river from the Vatican means that many restaurants, bars, and major landmarks (like Campo de’ Fiori) are available within a 10-minute walk. Those looking for an equally central location with more Old World charm should consider the Navona Gallery & Garden Suites.

Hit Hotel

The 66-room Hit Hotel is a budget option located across the street from popular Porto da Barra Beach. There are a number of restaurants, bars, and shops in the area, and the Da Barra Lighthouse is a 10-minute walk away. Rooms are simple and bright, with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, and some look out to lovely sea views. Some of the bathrooms could use a refresh, but they’re mostly clean and functional. A breakfast buffet is included in room rates, but that’s about it for features. Most guests are here to spend their days at the beach or exploring the neighborhood. Travelers who’d prefer a property with a few more features could check out the nearby Grande Hotel Da Barra, which adds a restaurant, bar, and pool.
