Hotel de Suez

The two-pearl Hotel de Suez is located in the heart of Paris, surrounded by the Latin Quarter’s historic buildings, and within easy reach of shopping, attractions and public transport. It’s a good budget choice for travelers who value location above all else, and the 49 rooms come in a variety of configurations. Note that air-conditioning is absent and boulevard-side rooms pick up noise. A simple breakfast of croissants or cereal is available and can be taken in-room, and there’s free Wi-Fi throughout. Decor is dated and a bit worn, so travelers wanting a little more spark might check out the nearby Hotel Fontaines du Luxembourg instead. It has a pretty courtyard and air-conditioned rooms, though slightly higher rates.

Plantation Suites & Conference

Plantation Suites is a well-priced property about a 15-minute walk from the beach, but it needs a refresh throughout. The 52 rooms have a cheerful lime green and brown color scheme, plus quality amenities that include microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, but walls are thin. The pool and hot tub are popular hangout spots, and while there’s no full restaurant, all rates include a simple breakfast. This is a great place for those whose primary vacation purpose is fishing: there’s cleaning facilities on-site for fresh catches, as well as boiling pots, barbecue areas, and cheap electrical hookups. It’s worth comparing rates with the nearby Island Hotel, which offers similar amenities and a game room.

Rodeway Inn International Drive

Orlando Metropolitan Resort is a two-pearl motel and resort hybrid across from the Orlando Eye. While its location is great, its 298 rooms are not, with worn furniture and subpar housekeeping. The hallways are even filthier, though the lobby is nice and features a decent coffeeshop with Starbucks coffee and a good variety of light snacks for sale. The major redeeming factor here is that guests get free access to the adjacent YMCA, which has a great fitness center and an Olympic-size pool. Still, there are plenty of better places to stay in the area, including the Baymont Inn & Suites Orlando Universal Blvd, which has nicer rooms (renovated in late 2017) and free Wi-Fi.
