Articles Mentioning Budget

Athens la Strada

This boutique budget property has location in particular going for it, as it’s situated right in the Plaka neighborhood, and most of Athens’ main attractions are within walking distance. Interiors tend to look like a futuristic art installment, with boldly painted glass walls in rooms, and LED lighting and hanging white baubles by the front desk. The abstract aesthetic isn’t for everyone, and the 16 rooms are on the small side, but clean fixtures, free Wi-Fi throughout, and jetted massage features in the showers are universally appealing. There’s no pool, gym, business center, or parking here, but the top-floor restaurant offers great Acropolis views, a bar, and a breakfast buffet. For a similar location, but a more understated elegance, guests may prefer the nearby Sweet Home Hotel — though rates are higher.

Havana Beach Resort

Havana Beach Resort is a lower-middle-range hotel set on one Koh Phangan’s longest and most beautiful white-sand beaches, Thong Nai Pan Yai. The sleepy area is far removed from the island’s buzzing nightlife scenes and is best suited to couples and families looking for a low-key beach retreat. The hotel’s 50 guest rooms have furnished patios and standard modern amenities like TVs, kettles, mini-fridges, and safes. Unfortunately, rooms also have dated interiors and dingy rundown bathrooms. Facilities are basic and tired looking, with just an outdoor swimming pool and a beachfront restaurant and bar. Indian, Thai, and Western meals are served, as well as regular seafood barbecues on the beach, plus free buffet breakfast. Guests who’d prefer to stay in the center of the action should consider Palita Lodge in Haad Rin.

Comfort Hotel Strasbourg Ouest

The two-pearl Comfort Hotel Strasbourg offers good value for money on the city’s outskirts. Its suburban location is well-connected by highways and nearby trams, and waterfront paths along the River Ill make for charming downtown strolls. The 66 basic rooms reflect the price, outfitted with desks, flat-screen TVs, and electric kettles, but they lack fridges and AC. Wood-beamed interiors have homey charm, and a restaurant serves local cuisine and breakfasts with fresh-baked pastries and sparkling wines. Terrace seating in the small garden provides a charming outdoor spot. Wi-Fi and plentiful parking are free. A meeting room also caters to corporate guests. The Ibis Strasbourg Centre Historic Centre is an affordable downtown alternative.

Pirwa Colonial Hostel

Two-pearl Pirwa Colonial Hostel is set on Plaza San Francisco, just a five-minute walk from Plaza de Armas in the town center. It’s a historic building full of nooks and courtyards, and there are plenty of spaces to kick back for its young crowd. There’s entertainment a-plenty too, with games rooms, TV and stereo, plus regular events like barbecues and parties. The restaurant is a big plus, serving free simple breakfasts and meals all day. The 15 basic rooms include large 16-bed dorms as well as private options, though decor can be tired and heat is sometimes lacking. It’s a decent option for young travelers, and the vibe is on the noisier end of the spectrum. A nearby alternative is Ecopackers, where rooms are a bit more polished and have orthopedic mattresses.

Ibis Strasbourg Centre Historique

This budget-level Ibishotel offers 244 low-frills room in a hip, colorful setting, near Strasbourg’s historic center. A short walk to the picturesque Petite France district, it’s well-placed near trams and the city’s main train station. Rooms refurbished in 2016 are contemporary and bright, outfitted with flat-screen TVs, work desks, and AC, but no fridges, kettles, or safes. Bathrooms are also tiny. Fun downstairs spaces include a 24-hour lounge bar and dining room serving a well-reviewed buffet breakfast, and a la carte lunch and dinner. A mix of leisure groups and families join corporate travelers here. Meeting rooms cater to the latter, but the hotel lacks fitness facilities. The Best Western Hotel de l’Europe is right downtown, but pricier.

Rose Garden Inn

As far as motels go, the lower-middle-range Rose Garden Inn is a solid option, with a decent location 10 minutes from downtown Santa Barbara and rates that are considerably more affordable than other hotels in the area. However, the lower prices translate to fewer frills. Though rooms are clean and well-appointed with mini-fridges, microwaves, ironing equipment, and some kitchenettes, most of the furniture and finishes look dated. There are also no amenities apart from the rooms, except for one laundry unit and free Wi-Fi. Guests who don’t expect anything fancy will find the property more than adequate and the pet-friendly policy is a plus for some. Those who want more than just a place to sleep may prefer the Cabrillo Inn at the Beach’s beautiful beachfront location, pool, and free breakfast for slightly higher rates.
