Scene

Lovely European-style condos with rustic river views

The hotel is composed of several two- and three-story converted condo buildings with terra-cotta roofs. Large wooden garage doors on some of the suites and private residences give the property an Old World vibe, with the a European-style decor conveying elegance. The hotel hosts weddings, company meetings and retreats, and romantic and group getaways.

Location

Off I-84 outside Hood River

The hotel is a five-minute drive to Hood River's downtown area, set back I-84 overlooking the cliffs along the Columbia River. It's not within walking distance wineries, shops, and restaurants (other than at the Columbia Gorge Hotel), that draw tourists to the area, but the sights -- and skiing -- are within a short drive. Mount Hood and the Portland International Airport are each about an hour away by car.

Rooms

Wine country decor with balconies and coffeemakers

The Columbia Cliff Villas Hotel's 37 privately owned rooms vary widely from one another in size and design, with a common theme to the decor that's equal parts contemporary European, and wine country chic. Most units are spacious, with lots of natural light and shared verandas or balconies, though the smallest rooms lack desks and sitting areas. Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers come standard, with mini-fridges and leather furnishings in higher-end rooms. Some rooms have river views, gas fireplaces, and private balconies. Suites range from one- to three-bedroom units with kitchenettes or full kitchens, and large furnished balconies. Most bathrooms have shower-tub combos; suites add large walk-in showers and separate soaking tubs.

Features

Rustic outdoor seating, free parking

The hotel sits atop the wooded cliffs making for great outdoor seating -- with Adirondack chairs and cut log stools -- providing amazing views of the Columbia River. There is no restaurant or breakfast offered on-site (the front office has a water cooler and a Keurig coffeemaker). Free parking is available, with covered garages for some units. Guests can use the amenities at the neighboring Columbia Gorge Hotel & Spa, which include a restaurant, spa, and gardens. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
