The Royal Park Hotel is a four-pearl property that offers solid amenities and good value. While not ideal for guests who want to be in downtown Hong Kong, the hotel is well-located within Sha Tin, overlooking the river and attached to a shopping mall with an MRT station. Features include multiple restaurants and a lobby bar, a large indoor/outdoor pool and gym, a small spa, and 24-hour room and concierge services. The hotel's 448 modern guest rooms are spacious, though decor is slightly generic. All come with flat-screen TVs, work desks, kettles, robes, free Wi-Fi, and lightly stocked minibars. Of the few hotels in the area, Royal Park arguably has the best location, but guests may want to compare rates with the Regal Riverside Hotel, which tends to be cheaper.
Scene
Large full-service hotel connected to a massive shopping mall for a mix of travelers
The Royal Park Hotel is situated in a 16-story brick high-rise. It caters to a mix of travelers, particularly families who have a reason to be in Sha Tin rather than in downtown Hong Kong. Decor throughout is tasteful, if generic. The lobby has high-gloss floors and a low ceiling, and while it feels very much like a business hotel, modern seating areas are bright, and a glass wall of wine bottles in the adjoining restaurant is an upscale touch. There's also a lobby bar, which is a popular spot come evening. Reception can get busy during peak hours, though the attentive staff are adept at keeping things moving.
Location
Accessible to mainland China and downtown Hong Kong via public transit
The Royal Park Hotel overlooks the Shing Mum River in a residential area of Sha Tin, north of Kawloon and Hong Kong Island. It's far from the city's main attractions, though the area is well-connected via public transit to both mainland China and Hong Kong.
The property occupies a prime spot, and it's perhaps the best-located of the handful hotels in Sha Tin. It's directly attached to the big New Town Plaza shopping mall, and guests can access the Sha Tin MRT Station inside, though the walk will take about 10 to 15 minutes. This MRT offers fairly easy access to downtown Hong Kong (about 45 minutes to Tsim Sha Tsui) and also has service to Shenzhen in mainland China.
The hotel offers free shuttle bus service to and from Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) four times a day. The No A41 bus, which stops right outside the hotel, goes directly to Hong Kong International Airport in about an hour, or guests can use the hotel airport shuttle service for an extra fee. Area attractions include the Hong Kong Heritage Museum (five-minute walk), Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery (15-minute walk), and the Sha Tin Racecourse (10-minute drive).
Rooms
Spacious rooms in a range of sizes, with tasteful decor and modern amenities
Guest rooms here are roomy (especially by Hong Kong standards), with neutral but tasteful, modern decor that pairs beige wall-to-wall carpeting with textured off-white walls and wood or wood-laminate furniture. Even entry-level rooms have small seating areas and work desks. Large windows let in natural light, and there's lighting over beds in addition to articulated reading lamps connected to headboards.
Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, coffee/tea service with electric kettles, and minibars, though they're lightly stocked with a few sodas and beers. There are also pillow menus, safes, robes, and slippers. Bathrooms tend to be narrow, but they have ample counter space, plus beige marble tiling, basin sinks, and shower/tub combos. All come equipped with toothbrushes and shower caps, but in most rooms toiletries consist of 2-in-1 body wash and shampoo from in-shower dispensers.
Triples and two-bedroom Suites are available, and there are also Executive-level rooms. Some rooms have nice views of the river.
Features
Multiple restaurants, a lobby bar, an indoor/outdoor pool, plus a spa and gym
This hotel offers a wide range of in-house amenities. The hotel has four restaurants that serve Asian cuisine and Western classics, and there's also a lobby cocktail and wine bar, and a coffee and cake shop. 2 + 2 cafe offers decent international buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guest who forgo in-room housekeeping can receive a voucher toward breakfast. Room service is available 24/7.
For wellness, the huge, seasonal indoor/outdoor heated pool is a highlight, with nice mosaic tiling and a patio with loungers. The fitness center is also large and gets natural light, and it's well-equipped with cardio and weightlifting equipment, and free weights. The spa has private treatment rooms (including a couple's room), plus separate steam rooms for men and women.
The Upper Lounge is open to those in Executive-level Rooms, and it features a daily breakfast buffet, evening cocktail hour, and other freebies. There are also meeting and event rooms, public computers, and guests are given free internet-enabled loaner smartphones for free during their stay. The concierge, who is available around the clock, can arrange laundry service, babysitting, or ticket assistance.
Other amenities include bike rentals, a currency exchange, airport shuttle or limo service (extra fee), valet parking, a Tesla charging station, and free shuttle service to and from Tsim Sha Tsui four times a day. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
