Bottom Line

The 396-room Prince (Marco Polo Hotels) is an upscale property located within the expansive Harbour City shopping mall in Kowloon's bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district. This hotel is located near the harbor with plenty of transportation, shopping, and dining options in easy walking distance. Modern rooms have stylish, subdued decor and lots of amenities including minibars, electric kettles, free loaner smartphone, and free Wi-Fi. There's a decent on-site restaurant, a kids' club, and a stylish gym with modern cardio machines plus a range of weight-lifting equipment. The mall's other two hotels -- the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel and the Gateway Hotel -- have more spirited decor, but tend to be a little pricier.

Scene

Upscale hotel attached to the expansive, high-end Harbour City shopping mall

The four-pearl Prince (Marco Polo Hotels) has an upscale street-facing entrance with a porte-cochère and a simple but refined lobby with marble floors, white walls, and stylish accent lighting. Hallways and stairs have a traditional feel with wood banisters, carpeted floors, and moody sconce lighting. Though the decor may feel somewhat generic, it's tasteful and understated with a high-end feel. The Prince is one of three hotels situated within the popular, expansive, and high-end Harbour City shopping complex, and should not be confused with the similarly named Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel on the other side of the mall. While the Prince is arguably the most traditional of Harbour City's three hotels, it also tends to be the most affordable. The property appeals to a mix of business and leisure guests, including families with kids who appreciate the on-site kids' club.

Location

Surrounded by upscale shops in the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district of Kowloon

Located on Canton Road in the bustling Kowloon district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the Prince is one of three hotels situated within the high-end Harbour City mall complex, and thus it's surrounded by a plethora of upscale shopping and dining options as well as two movie theaters. The location is just a minute's walk from the harbor itself, and offers easy access to transportation. It's a minute's walk from the China Ferry Terminal, an eight-minute walk from the Star Ferry terminal, and a 10-minute walk from the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR. Other attractions are also in walking distance including Kowloon Park (two minutes), the Hong Kong Museum of Art (10 minutes), and the 1881 Heritage buildings (six minutes). Hong Kong International Airport is a half-hour drive by car or taxi, and, for an extra fee, the hotel can arrange airport transfers via limousine or shuttle bus.

Rooms

Spacious, understated rooms with minibars, sitting areas, free loaner smartphones, and electric kettles

Compared to other Hong Kong hotels, rooms at the Prince are spacious, with at least 314 square feet in the smallest Superior Rooms and over 600 square feet in the largest Suites. Decor is tasteful and stylish, if somewhat generic, in a contemporary style featuring neutral colors such as beige wall-to-wall carpeting, tan walls, and dark wood furniture. All rooms include work desks, sitting areas for two, and small wardrobes with bathrobes, slippers, umbrellas, safes, and air-conditioning. Rooms include minibars stocked with beer and drinks. Snacks and electric kettles are also provided. Tech amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with a range of channels and movies available for purchase, and free loaner smartphones with unlimited data and local calling. Rooms may have city or harbor views. Bathrooms may feel slightly dated, but are clean and roomy with off-white walls and floors, marble vanity sinks, and shower/tub combos in Standard Rooms. Bathrooms include hairdryers and individual toiletries.

Wi-Fi is free and guests are given a smartphone for use during their stay, which guests can use as a Wi-Fi hotspot or on its own with free unlimited 3G data and free local calls as well as free international calls to select locations, including China, the Philippines, Japan, the U.K., and the U.S.
