The Park Hotel
Hong Kong is an upscale, 346-room property set in Kowloon's bustling
shopping and tourist hub of Tsim Sha Tsui. Rooms are spacious by
Hong Kong standards and decent amenities include loaner smartphones with free mobile Internet and city guides; some have harbor views. There's a restaurant on-site serving Western, Chinese, and Japanese buffet fare. Interiors are certainly chic in parts, but it may also be worth considering the sometimes cheaper Butterfly On Prat hotel a block away, which some may find has a little more character.
Scene
Bold entrance off main road with sleek interiors and futuristic touches
Although tucked
away off the main road, the Park Hotel's main entrance is grander than most, with a striking metal cross-hatch facade with a marble-lined doorway. The lobby is sleek and bright with plenty of polished stone and mirrored glass, though with a mishmash of styling that looks simultaneously
futuristic and slightly dated. Interiors are clean with a coolly efficient vibe and enough splashes of colorful
art to keep them from feeling too corporate. In fact, the clientele leans largely towards
leisure travelers -- mostly shoppers and families with kids -- while also
appealing to a fair number of business types.
Location
in the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district, surrounded by shops and eateries
The hotel is
located in the popular and particularly bustling tourist and shopping district
of Tsim Sha Tsui, in the south of the he Kowloon Peninsula. The surrounding area is constantly abuzz with crowds and traffic as well as abundant restaurants, local
businesses, and retail outlets. Knutsford Terrace -- a
pleasant pedestrianized area full of cafes and alfresco eateries -- is a five-minute walk away, while the
hubbub of Nathan Road is also just five minutes on foot. There are two MRT
subway stations within a 10-minute walk, while Hung Hom Station is around five
minutes by car. The green expanse of Kowloon Park is also within walking
distance, as are several of the city's main shopping malls.
Rooms
Big, modern rooms with great amenities, including super-handy loaner smartphones
The hotel has 346
rooms, all of which are decorated in a blend of fresh modern styling with
traditional homey touches including carpeted floors, colorful art, and dark wooden furnishings. Rooms have flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and in-house movies and come with loaner smartphones with free mobile Internet access and free calls (all local and some
international). In-room refreshments include minibars,
and free bottled water, and some also come with Nespresso machines.
Most rooms are spacious (especially by Hong Kong standards) and some have partial
harbor views (which may at some point be obscured by construction). Past guests have complained of poor
soundproofing from hallway noise.
Features
Dazzling buffet restaurant and colorful lounge bar
The hotel's dazzling Park Cafe starts the day with a decent buffet breakfast that
includes cooked-to-order eggs (though breakfast is not included in base rates). The restaurant also serves buffets of Western, Chinese, and Japanese
cuisine at lunch and dinner. There's also a small but colorful lounge bar --
offering hot and cold drinks together with cakes and pastries -- and an almost
equally colorful fitness room with modern fitness equipment. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and the hotel provides a two-way shuttle
service to the Airport Express Train and Kowloon Station.
