The 85 rooms are on the small side, but all come with streaming Apple TV and 3-D smart TVs, rainfall showers, and free minibars. More free perks come in the Hong Kong-based chain's hallmark Lo Lounge, which serves free breakfast and hosts a daily happy hour. Guests can rent Xboxes, iPads, and DVD players. Those looking to stay closer to the action might want to check out the four-pearl Eaton, Hong Kong, which has a rooftop pool.
Scene
Sleek, stylish, modern high-rise
In contrast to the Old World fishing harbor outside, the hotel's lobby is all stainless steel and gray marble, with red pendant lights and a ceiling installation that mimics dockyard mooring buoys. The space feels futuristic, but stylish, and the area opens onto the breakfast room and Lo Lounge, decked in dark gray marble tiles and lined with plenty of seating along banquettes and communal tables. There's candy and snacks available here throughout the day and an evening happy hour. The white-and-gray hallways are bathed in soft blue light, and guests here tend be couples and families, though a good amount of solo travelers pass through as well.
Location
In a residential area overlooking Aberdeen Harbor
Located in Tin Wan between a residential street and a major highway, the hotel overlooks Aberdeen Harbor. It's within walking distance of the waterfront and the Aberdeen Promenade. There are some shops and local restaurants in the area. The hotel isn't convenient for walking to the more central districts of Hong Kong, and it's a 38-minute ride by public transportation to the centrally located Admiralty station, or a 10-minute drive (the hotel provides shuttle service). Hong Kong International Airport is about a 36-minute drive, or an hour and 20 minutes by public transportation.
Rooms
Ultra-modern with smart TVs and free minibars
All 85 compact rooms have a bright decor with hardwood floors and steel accents. Colorful striped wallpaper or cheery sky blue walls play off recessed ceiling lighting and smoked-glass bathroom doors. A quirky Queen and Bunk Room adds lofted bunk beds reached by steel ladders bolted to the wall. Smart TVs with streaming Apple TV, work desks, and electronic safes come standard, along with free stocked minibars and Wi-Fi. iPads and game console systems are also available upon request (with limited availability). The sleek, tiled bathrooms have walk-in rainfall showers and boutique toiletries. Some upgraded rooms, and all Suites, have sea views.
Features
Lounge with free snacks and drinks, free breakfast, fitness center
A hallmark of all Ovolo hotels, the 24-hour Lo Lounge is a stylish common space that serves as a breakfast room (breakfast is included in the room rate), and then operates as an all-day snack bar with free refreshments. In the evening it takes on the vibe of a cocktail lounge, starting with free drinks during a daily happy hour. Other amenities include a guest laundry with free washers and dryers, as well as a 24-hour fitness center that's stocked with free bottled water along with treadmills, cardio bikes, and free weights. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
