The 283-room Hotel Jen Hong Kong is an upscale property located in the busy Western District of Hong Kong island, within walking
distance of HKU Station on the MTR subway line. This hotel occupies a
high-rise building with views over the
harbor and city skyline. Rooms are a bit cramped, but average in size by
Hong Kong standards, with streamlined and spotlessly clean modern interiors.
Highlights include the rooftop swimming pool, with stunning views over the harbor
and skyline, and the on-site Café Malacca restaurant, which has "Bib Gourmand" Michelin rating, and serves Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. Another upscale
hotel in the same neighborhood worth considering for its larger rooms and more
competitive rates is the Courtyard by Marriott, Hong Kong.
Scene
Modern, upscale hotel with bright interiors and scenic views
The four-pearl Hotel Jen Hong Kong occupies a high-rise glass
building located in a busy, urban area of Hong Kong. The vibe here is
understated chic, with modern, bright interiors and large windows letting in
sunlight and offering sweeping views of the Hong Kong skyline and harbor from
almost all the public areas of the hotel, including the fitness center and Club
Lounge. Escalators from the ground floor lead upstairs to reception, a spacious
and bright area simply decorated in light beige tones without any superfluous
frills. There's a long wooden reception counter for checking guests in, while a casual
bar space occupies the other end of the lobby. The hotel is popular with
couples visiting Hong Kong as leisure travelers, as well as business travelers.
Location
In a busy area of the Western District
Hotel Jen Hong Kong is located in a busy area of
the Western District of Hong Kong island, only a seven-minute walk to HKU
Station on the MTR subway line, from where it’s easy to travel to any part of
the island, including popular tourist districts like Central, Wan Chai, and
Causeway Bay. There are many shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity of
the hotel. Hong Kong International Airport is a 30-minute drive away. - Seven-minute walk to HKU Station on the MTR subway line
Rooms
Compact but clean and streamlined rooms with free Wi-Fi
Rooms at Hotel Jen Hong Kong are
compact, but comfortable and spotlessly clean. The decor is minimalist,
decorated in soft gray and white tones. Gray carpets and walls contrast with
the crisp, white bed linens. A long seat cushion runs the length of the window,
creating a cozy window seat with views of the city skyline and harbor beyond.
Some rooms have good-sized bathrooms decked out in light beige tiling with
shower/tub combos, while others like the Club Harbour View Rooms have vanity sinks located in the hall, plus separate shower stalls and toilet cubicles.
The Club Suites have partitioned rooms, featuring kitchenettes (with full
fridges, microwaves, and cutlery drawers), large walk-in showers and
in-room bathtubs, and living areas. All rooms have electric kettles to make tea
and coffee, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, ironing facilities, toiletries and hairdryers in the bathrooms, and free Wi-Fi.
Features
Popular restaurant, rooftop pool with scenic views, Club Lounge, and free Wi-Fi
Although it lacks a spa, the Hotel Jen Hong Kong checks off most of the other features expected for an upscale hotel. Café Malacca, the on-site restaurant serving
Malaysian and Singaporean street cuisine, is listed as a "Bib Gourmand" restaurant in the 2015 Michelin Guide. However, the breakfast offered at the hotel (which is not included in the rate) does not get enthusiastic reviews, and past guests have
found it to be less than a good value. Another notable feature is the rooftop
16-meter (52-foot) swimming pool, which has panoramic views of the Hong Kong skyline and
the harbor area plus areas for lounging and sunbathing. The hotel also has a fully equipped fitness center open 24
hours, with tall floor-to-ceiling windows also offering scenic views of the
harbor. Guests who have booked the exclusive Club Rooms can enjoy the extra
perks offered in the Club Lounge, including a breakfast buffet, free drinks and
snacks throughout the day, free laundry pressing, concierge services, and an
evening cocktail hour. The Shuttle Bus service provides an hourly airport
pick-up and drop-off service for an extra fee, as well as a free shuttle
service to Hong Kong Station and the central business district. The business
center has two computers available for guests’ use, and there’s a free Wi-Fi
connection throughout the hotel.
