Bottom Line

The Culloden Estate is a popular spot among couples and honeymooners and it's not surprising; this luxurious historic property was once a palace, and it still sits on over 12 lush acres today. But instead of days filled with royal duties, guests here enjoy days filled with rest and relaxation, whether they're spent at the gorgeous spa, in the fine-dining establishments, or in the attractive rooms which come complete with free water and welcome trays. Bathrooms are small and there are few amenities for children, but otherwise it's hard to find fault with this Irish property.

Scene

Couples and honeymooners enjoy the serene atmosphere

This historic property has an elegant and refined vibe that seems fitting for a palace tucked into the Titanic Quarter's countryside. Some might find the atmosphere a bit stuffy, and a lack of kid-friendly amenities or casual restaurants makes it less-than-ideal for families, but couples seem perfectly content with the quiet ambiance. The lovely grounds include English gardens, and guests could easily spend all day in the massive spa.

Location

In Belfast's Titanic Quarter, on 12 acres of land

Set on 12 acres, the Culloden Estate is about 15 minutes from the center of Belfast but nonetheless considers its home to be Belfast's Titanic Quarter. Most likely known among avid Game of Thrones fans, the Titanic Quarter is not only a popular site location for films, but is also known as the birthplace of the Titanic, and a 10-minute drive from the hotel will get you to the Titanic Belfast, a monument commemorating Belfast's many maritime achievements. Guests can also take part in various walking, segway, and speedboat tours, and adventurous types can wakeboard or bungee jump. The Belfast International Airport is about a 30-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Attractive rooms, but not quite up to par with the hotel category.

Rooms here are certainly attractive and spacious enough; picture uber-plush beds with gold or red runners, attractive ottomans, and pretty floral curtains. But considering that the Culloden is a luxury property, the rooms are necessarily a highlight and that's surprising. They do come with nice updates such as large flat-screen TVs, iHomes, plush robes, safes, and freebies like bottled water and a welcome tray. Wi-Fi, however, is extra. Bathrooms are small but sufficient. Upgrading to a junior suite gets you a walk-in shower and a deep soaking tub.

Features

The massive spa is the highlight.

"Spa" is in the name of this hotel for a reason; the spa at the Culloden is truly gorgeous, and includes a massive indoor pool with a whirlpool and beautiful treatment rooms outfitted with soft lighting, warm earth tones, and free fruits and fruit-infused water. A well-equipped fitness center can be found nearby. There are numerous options for on-site dining. Besides the daily afternoon tea, guests can visit the renowned Cultra Inn, dine in the gourmet Mitre Restaurant, or head to the Crozier Lounge for tea and cocktails. There are few kid-friendly options on the various menus. Restaurants include private spaces for special occasions, and several meeting rooms and event spaces can also be found throughout the property.Parking is free, but Wi-Fi requires an additional fee.
