Scene

A secluded resort with beautiful grounds and public spaces

The resort is big on privacy. It’s at the very end of a private road, with access through a security gate. Guests have to obtain a visitor's pass for the day, and upon checking into the hotel you receive a parking pass that will wave you through the gate for the duration of your stay. The greenery adds to the seclusion. Outside, there are wraparound porches and shady seating areas with lots of comfortable chairs surrounded by palm trees. The lobby has an airy, luxurious feel with high beamed ceilings and patterned tile floors. The front desk area opens up into lounge spaces livened up by bright pops of color and nautical-themed accents -- such as model ships -- scattered throughout. The hotel completed a massive renovation in March 2015, and the resort feels contemporary throughout.

Location

On the beach in a resort-heavy area

The Omni is on the beach and near most other hotels on Hilton Head Island. Its convenient location offers easy access to plenty of golf courses. The resort is about a 15-minute drive from the small Hilton Head Airport. It is also around an hour away by car to Savannah, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Stylish, contemporary rooms with kitchenettes

Rooms are more modern and stylish, with a vibrant design scheme that features bright patterned headboards and aqua accent walls. Rooms offer all the expected amenities, including flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, safes, clock radios with iPod docks, hairdryers, bathrobes, irons, and ironing boards. All rooms also have kitchenettes with granite counter tops, microwaves, mini-fridges, and small dining tables, as well as private balconies (some with pool and ocean views). Bathrooms are fairly basic, with curtained shower/tub combos and only a narrow shelf below the mirror to place toiletries. Rooms facing the pool area can be a little noisy. Those guests in need of added space can upgrade to one of the 20 luxury suites, which feature separate living rooms with sofa beds.

Features

Highlights include multiple pools, a beautiful private beach, and a popular restaurant

The resort features a large, well-maintained pool complex that offers plenty of lounge chairs and tables alongside adult, family, and wading pools. Shaded cabanas are also available. Another highlight is the pretty private beach manned by lifeguards. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent in the resort's on-site shop. The HH Prime restaurant gets high marks for the food, and there’s also the casual outdoor Buoy Bar and the indoor XO Lounge, which is dark and sleek. The Palmetto Market sells snacks, wine, and sundries. There are many meeting rooms and event spaces, including an outdoor event area with facilities for oyster roasts. The resort is part of the Palmetto Dunes community, which offers an 11-mile lagoon system for kayaking and canoeing, bike trails, tennis courts and, of course, golf. The spa offers a full menu of services.
