Comfort Hotel Expo Colmar

The Comfort Hotel Expo Colmar is a clean and contemporary mid-range hotel offering a few property features. Built in 2014, the three-floor hotel features a rectangular dark gray facade accented by modern stripes and squares of color in yellow, orange, and red. The lobby is charming and funky, with black-and-white striped carpeting, fresh white walls, and bright accents. A lounge area offers ottoman-style seats in pink, blue, and orange, and angular upholstered chairs in navy are gathered around white cafe tables. A mural accents one wall, while slender bookshelves full of books on another wall create a homey feel. The open-plan lobby lounge also encompasses the reception area, the bar, and the breakfast room. An outdoor patio features red and orange molded chairs set against a yellow accent wall and red awning. Despite the funky modern style, the hotel still manages to have a somewhat static chain-hotel vibe, but it's clean, tasteful, and well-priced. The location near the airport and expo center attracts business travelers, but tourists and families stay here too, especially those traveling by car and looking for a deal outside of the more expensive hotels in the Old Town. 

This Comfort Hotel is situated along a busy main road in an industrial area. Both Colmar Expo and Colmar Airport are around a 15-minute walk from the hotel, or a five-minute drive. The area isn't very scenic, and there's not much else within walking distance, though for guests with a car, it's not much of a hardship to get to local sights. The city's main train station (Gare de Colmar) is a 10-minute drive, as is Colmar's historic Old Town, which includes popular sights like Little Venice (La Petite Venise) and St. Martin's Church. Colmar is located in northeastern France's Alsace region, near the German border, and is positioned on the popular Alsatian Wine Route. The hotel offers free on-site parking.

Rooms are tasteful and contemporary, featuring pleasant -- if simple -- decor that includes gray wall-to-wall carpeting, white walls, and bright accents, like purple laminate desks and matching drapes. White beds are accented with velvety gray pillows, while colorful pieces of art depicting local scenes hang above them. Most rooms also feature bench-style window seating. Small glass shelves function as bedside tables and gooseneck lamps serve as reading lights. Modern white bathrooms feature standing glass-walled showers and contemporary square sinks. Though rooms are clean and pleasant, there's a generic chain-hotel feel to the decor, which is standard across rooms. 

Amenities include basic work desks, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. They also include safes and tea- and coffee-making facilities -- but no mini-fridges. Bathrooms are stocked with hairdryers and free individual toiletries. Entry-level Standard Rooms (twin or double beds) can be fairly small, measuring just under 200 square feet, though they are well-laid out. A Triple Room features a double bed and a sofa bed and measures about 240 square feet. Superior Family Rooms can accommodate up to four people and measure 320 square feet.

The hotel offers only a few property features, all aimed at convenience for travelers. The open-plan ground floor includes the reception, a lobby lounge, a bar area, and a breakfast room. There's also an outdoor terrace with seating. Lobby decor is bright and modern and the large windows let in a lot of light, though they mostly overlook the parking lot. 

A decent breakfast buffet offers hot and cold fare, and all the usual suspects make an appearance -- cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage, pastries, etc. But breakfast costs an extra fee. While there's no on-site restaurant, the lobby bar serves drinks and snacks and is open 24/7, plus room service is available. The hotel offers free on-site parking, a computer for guest use, and free Wi-Fi. Welcoming, multilingual staff man the reception desk 24/7. Pets are allowed for an extra nightly fee. There are no fitness facilities.
