Bottom Line

From its eighth-story restaurant to its moody basement bar, the upscale Hanoi La Siesta Hotel Trendy offers a stylish, modern, and upscale boutique feel that’s still fresh from its 2016 opening. Indeed, past guests rave about the food (including a free breakfast buffet), the trendy bar, and the impeccable service. The hotel’s 70 rooms and suites are stylish with wood floors and furnishings and details like mosaic tiled entryways and tray ceilings, though bathrooms tend to be narrow and entry-level rooms lack exterior windows. There’s no on-site pool or gym, but the hotel has a spa with six treatment rooms. The property's Old Quarter location is excellent, in walking distance to eateries, markets, sights, and Hoan Kiem Lake. For similar amenities, travelers may want to compare rates with the nearby O'Gallery Premier Hotel & Spa.

Scene

Upscale hotel, open in 2016, offering a stylish, modern boutique feel

Hanoi La Siesta Hotel Trendy is a 2016 addition to the small, upscale Hanoi-based hotel group, Hanoi Elegance. With chic, modern decor and exceptional service, the hotel often feels like a luxury property. The lobby has a boutique ambiance with elegantly angular metalwork, rustic wood details, and tiered pendant lights. In a balcony nook, modern, curved wood chairs sit before shelves of books. Throughout, natural material like slate tiles and wood beams are balanced with vivid greenery, such as fresh-cut orchids. Common area decor throughout the hotel stays in tune with lobby decor, giving the property a unique feel that goes beyond standard chain hotel fare. The excellent location draws sightseeing tourists, and both families and couples can take advantage of the range of room and suite sizes.

Location

Excellent location on edge of Old Quarter, an easy walk to eateries, shops, and sights

Hanoi La Siesta Hotel Trendy is well-located on the western edge of Hanoi’s atmospheric and historic Old Quarter, in walking distance to major attractions. Though the area is known for being chaotic, guests note that being tucked on the edge of the quarter means this particular spot is quieter and a little more peaceful that others. Still, plenty is nearby. Guests can walk to food stalls, shops, and the weekend night market (a 10-minute walk east). It’s a 10 to 15 minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, the historic Temple of the Jade Mountain, and the Water Puppet Theater. Guests can ostensibly walk to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum or the Temple of Literature (a 20-minute walk); though most take a taxi (a 10-minute drive). Noi Bai International Airport is about a 40-minute drive.

Rooms

Sleek, stylish rooms with hardwood floors, tray ceilings, minibars, and more

Every bit as chic and modern as public spaces, rooms and suites have hardwood floors, wood-grain furnishings with a contemporary rustic edge, and entryways featuring black-and-white mosaic tiling. Soft blue or gray walls pair well with white tray ceilings. Details are stylish too, such as the bedside chandeliers and patchwork Eames-style desk chairs. Bathrooms tend to be small, but they're sleek and modern with beige or slate gray tiling, basin sinks, and standing showers.

That said, the rooms are a main reason this hotel doesn’t reach luxury status. Bathrooms are small and lack tubs, and entry-level rooms are compact (215 square feet) with only internal windows. But this helps keep the price below five-pearl competitors. Upgrade to a Trendy Deluxe Room for an external window or a suite for a street-facing window and extra space. Family Suites can accommodate up to four guests (connecting rooms are also offered) and suites may add sitting areas, extra decor features, and/or a French balcony or furnished balcony. Note that some rooms are situated in an adjacent building with a spa.

All room categories come equipped with air-conditioning units, 32-inch flat-screen TVs with cable, in-room safes, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and coffee/tea service. Bathroom amenities include robes, hairdryers, and free individual toiletries, too. Free bottled water is offered daily, and housekeeping comes twice a day. Guests in suite rooms get a free cocktail at the Den Bar. With the windows closed, rooms are well insulated from exterior noise, though guests occasionally complain of noise from within the hotel.

Features

Excellent restaurant with free breakfast and city views, atmospheric bar, and spa

The hotel offers deluxe property features reflecting its upscale status. The eighth-story Red Bean Restaurant is a highlight, with trendy rustic-chic decor, Hanoi views, and indoor and outdoor dining spots. Past guests have raved about the food. Lunch and dinner are offered a la carte, and the free and highly praised international breakfast buffet is served here for guests each morning. The hotel's basement-level Den Bar is a trendy cocktail and wine bar, with the ambiance of an old-style lounge. It’s open in the evenings. The hotel also has a small spa, situated in the annex building next door where some suites are also located. Six treatment rooms are available for everything from body massages to body scrubs and facials.

Staff are exceptional, going out of their way to help guests. Concierge service and room service (limited hours) are offered, and, airport transfers, currency exchange, and laundry service can be arranged, with most guests finding the fees reasonable. Guests can also book local tours directly through the hotel. For those traveling with children, there are high chairs and cribs, and babysitting can be arranged. Wi-Fi throughout the hotel is free. While there’s no pool or gym, guests report being able to use the gym at a nearby sister hotel.
