The Montauk Beach House

The Montauk Beach House occupies a long, two-story contemporary building with glass balconies and large windows, set in a natural landscape of large bushes of native feather grass. The interiors are rustic in style, with white-washed wide-plank floors, and paneled walls in white and soft gray, with an eclectic mix of rustic and vintage furniture, creating an inviting, relaxed atmosphere. There are lots of cozy indoor and outdoor lounge areas, where guests can relax and mingle. The vibe here is very young and trendy -- it's a place where people come not only to relax but also to party. Though the hotel caters to all age groups, the loud pool parties may not suit everyone; but there is a quiet “Zen Zone” for those looking for calm. Most guests staying here are young couples spending a long weekend away.

The Montauk Beach House is a 15-minute walk from the center of Montauk, a town located on the eastern end of the south shore of Long Island. This is a quiet beach town, and in the vicinity of the hotel there are many shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, and a residential area, all of which is easily reachable on foot. The beach is just two blocks away from the hotel, a two-minute walk. Camp Hero State Park is a 10-minute drive away, while Hither Hills State Park is a 12-minute drive. The closest airport is Long Island MacArthur Airport, a 90-minute drive from here.

The guest rooms at The Montauk Beach House are spacious and bright, thanks to the large windows and attached balconies. The trendy decor is beach house shabby chic, with wide-plank wooden floors, high-beamed ceilings, and interesting vintage furnishings, like wrought-iron beds, Edison lamps, clawfoot bathtubs, old-fashioned pedestal sinks, and bronze bathroom fittings. There are four different room styles available: the Moonlight Rooms on the second floor overlooking the swimming pools have walls painted in bold indigo and plum-colored tones, and high ceilings. The Whitewater Lofts are especially bright, with private south-facing balconies, beautiful oak floors, and handcrafted headboards made of reclaimed wood. The Whitewater Garden Rooms have large 200-square-foot outdoor terraces with daybeds, while the Ocean Mist Terrace Rooms are located by the pool and have pleasant outside seating areas enclosed by walls made of strips of mahogany wood. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs (with few channels), bathrooms with showers, and free toiletries. However, there are no minibars or mini-fridges and no in-room phones, and past guests have complained about the lack of adequate storage space in the form of dressers or wardrobes. Also, soundproofing between rooms is poor, and the pool-facing rooms tend to be noisy because of the weekly pool parties. 

The most notable features at The Montauk Beach House are its two outdoor swimming pools and the large sun terrace. This is the central hub of the property, and where guests spend most of their time; either swimming and sunbathing by day, or partying by night. There are plenty of comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as showers. Every Saturday night a pool party is held with a live DJ. The poolside bar and grill, open daily, offers simple meals and sandwiches. Guests are also offered a free continental buffet breakfast, which gets mixed reviews. A small poolside shop sells bathing suits, casual clothing, jewelry, and even surfboards. Guests can use the hotel’s bicycles free of charge, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
