Bottom Line

The Southampton Village Motel is a bright and fresh budget property with a convenient location and a quiet atmosphere. The restaurants and shops of Main Street are a 10-minute walk away while beaches are within a short drive or bike ride. Renovated in 2014, the 10 rooms feature air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and comfy beds with Pottery Barn linens. This family-owned property has a spacious lawn and gardens with tables and seating, and offers free bicycle usage, beach passes, and Tate's cookies. There is no breakfast service or restaurant, however, and rooms are smallish. Wi-Fi is free. There's no pool; if that's a priority, consider the larger Southampton Inn, but lose the intimate feel here.

Scene

A quiet motel renovated in 2014 with coastal vibe and a lawn

The Southampton Village Motel has been family-owned and operated since 1976 and underwent complete renovations in 2014. It is, as the name suggests, a motel, as the rooms have exterior ground-floor entrances leading to the parking lot. The front sign, a gray rectangle with white posts and dark-red lettering, has a simple but classy look that is indicative of the rest of the property. Rooms occupy a one-story building with pitched roofs and gray siding accented with white trim and dark-red doors. White wicker seating and steel-gray flower pots sit outside on the open tiled hallways. Landscaping separates the building from the gravel parking lot and there are neatly kept gardens throughout the property's spacious lawn. White tables and chairs shaded by blue umbrellas are set up across the grass. A rack of silver beach cruisers with wicker baskets sits outside the building, ready for guest use. The only other common space is a tiny reception room where free coffee is served daily. It's decorated with beach photography, pale wood flooring, and a white bench with red-and-white-striped cushions. The couples and small families who stay here tend to keep busy off-site, however, exploring the local restaurants and beaches and retiring to the motel for a peaceful night's rest.

Location

Walk to town, bike to the beach

The Southampton Village Motel is well-situated for vacationers. While the property is quiet and small, it offers easy access to all of the local activity. The restaurants and shops of Main Street in Southampton are just 10 minutes away on foot. The Parrish Art Museum is a three-minute drive from the motel, while Southampton Historical Museum is a few minutes' drive in the opposite direction. Beaches are a short drive or bike ride away, including Cooper's Beach (eight-minute drive or 13-minute bike ride).  Montauk is a 40-minute drive and the Montauk Lighthouse is 10 minutes beyond. A free trolley stops at the motel for access around town and to the beach. Bicycles are available free for guest use. The Southhampton Long Island Railroad stop is a three-minute drive or 16-minute walk from the motel.

Rooms

Bright with beachy charm and comfy beds

Rooms at the Southampton Village Motel were renovated in 2014 and have a fresh coastal vibe. The palette is bright white and pale sea-foam green, with light-wood floors and white wicker armchairs lending summery charm. Walls are decorated with color photography and wicker baskets provide extra storage space. Guests note that the beds, with Sealy mattresses and Pottery Barn linens, are particularly comfy; eight of the rooms have queen-size beds and two rooms have twin-size beds. Closet units store mini-fridges, safes, and plush robes and slippers. Each room is air-conditioned and comes with free Wi-Fi and a 26-inch flat-screen TV. Free Tate's cookies and bottled water are nice touches. Full-length mirrors in the rooms and makeup mirrors in the bathrooms are further evidence of this property's attention to detail. Bathrooms continue the white-and-sea-foam color scheme, with subway-tile showers, single vanities, free toiletries, and hairdryers. Some guests find rooms to be a bit small, but all are kept immaculately clean.

Features

Free bikes, beach passes, and coffee in the morning; pet-friendly

The Southampton Village Motel is a small property with a few nice features. Several cruiser bikes are available for free guest use and make getting to the beach and around town easy. The property also offers free passes to the beach and free use of beach towels. The spacious lawn has tables and chairs as well as sunbeds where guests can relax with a book. Free coffee is provided in the reception room every morning, but there is no breakfast service. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property which is pet-friendly (for a fee).
