Breakfast is expensive
With a fantastic location near the port and within easy
walking distance of downtown Hamburg, the 166-room, upscale Madison is hip and clean. It's ideal for
tourists, business travelers, and, thanks to the kitchenettes in every room,
long-stay guests. Breakfast can be a bit pricey, but there are plenty of nearby
cafes for more affordable dining, and rooms come in a variety of
prices, ranging from Studios, which are still spacious and super-modern, to Penthouses that resemble massive apartments.
Scene
Clean, colorful, and modern with industrial flair
Colors and patterns are employed to great appeal at the
Madison -- the white bed comforters have swirly black designs, and red accent walls pop up throughout the hotel. The restaurant lounge chairs are
vibrant pink and purple, with cylinder lamps hanging over every table.
The two-floor open concept in the lobby and restaurant highlights the hip, industrial-looking lights, and there's a patio area (for when its warm) with interesting, triangular
hedges. The overall look is clean and colorful. The artwork is sparse but
strategically placed and enhanced by the steel lights and banisters.
Location
Nestled between St. Michaelis Church and port
The Madison is a block away from the Elbe River, and within a two-minute walk of St. Michaelis Church, the port promenade, and the piers. The nearest U-Bahn station is Baumwall. The Speicherstadt District is within a five-minute walk, and HafenCity is about 10 minutes away on foot. Downtown Hamburg and
its many shops, plus Neuer Wall, Monckebergstrasse, the fish market, and
Landungsbrucken are within a 15-minute walk, and Hamburg airport is about a 20-minute drive.
Rooms
Rooms range from Studios to Penthouses; Penthouses have full kitchens, and all other rooms have kitchenettes.
Each of the Madison’s 166 rooms comes with free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and a kitchenette (or full kitchen) with a high-tech coffeemaker, sink, stovetop, and
dishes. Everything in the rooms is broad – the beds, windows, cabinets, walls, and floor. The suites have a separate living room with a large, sectional couch, and an office area. The Penthouses are enormous, with full
kitchens, including ovens, and enough space to host a party for a couple of dozen
guests. In terms of decor, the red accent walls, black or white headboards, black-and-white patterned bedspreads, and wall-to-wall carpeting in gray or red give the rooms a warm but modern
look.
Features
Pool and fitness center, plus parking
The Madison offers Wi-Fi throughout the property, and free guest access to the Meridian Spa, pool,
sauna, and fitness center in the morning, after which a discounted rate is offered. There are five conference rooms and a small business corner, and a
large (paid) parking garage. Marley’s restaurant serves tasty international
fare for lunch and dinner, and a large breakfast buffet (not included in the room
price) with fresh fruit, eggs, a variety of pastries, and bread. Reception is open 24 hours a day, and laundry and dry cleaning services are available.
