With its variety of meeting and presentation rooms and
proximity to the Emporio Hamburg and airport, the 325-room Scandic was designed with
business guests in mind. But this upper-middle-range property is also a comfortable, quiet, and convenient option
for tourists, particularly those wanting to explore the Gansemarkt shopping area, which is right down
the street. With its futuristic-looking Scandinavian architecture and cool, hip vibe, the Scandic offers more space than many hotels closer to the
city center, as well as an underground parking garage, a sauna, and even a toy area for
children.
Scene
Professional, sleek, and artistic
The Scandic Hamburg is super-modern both inside and out. The exterior is a business-like box
of glass, but inside the Emporio’s distinctly Scandinavian personality shines. Plenty
of light comes in from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Floors are an immaculate
light wood, and the elevators are trippy but cool -- they change colors from floor to
floor. Everything from the walls to the floors looks sleek
and futuristicThe lobby and restaurant lounge areas – even a couple of the
meeting rooms – feature hanging orb lamps, and there are plenty of plush couches
to sink into in the H20 Lounge, whose walls are festooned with a number of bold prints.
Location
Near old city center and Gansemarkt Square
Within about a 10-minute drive to the Hamburg Airport, the
Scandic is in Hamburg’s old city center, locally known as the red lamp area, and is surrounded by high-end shops, restaurants, and bars. The Gansemarkt Square shopping
area and U-Bahn station are about a five-minute walk away, and the Neuer
Wall, Jungfernstieg shopping area, U-Bahn, and S-Bahn stations are within a
15-minute walk.
Rooms
Big windows and clean, light wood finishes
All rooms get plenty of light thanks to the wall-size windows. Each has a painting, couch, immaculate light wood floors, and a built-in desk, shelves, nightstand, and open wardrobe. A couple
of sleek-looking lamps, a space-age-looking flat-screen TV, and eco-friendly light switches, and climate control, are also part of the package, along with mini-fridges, safes, and tea kettles, and uber-modern bathrooms with glass stand-in showers. The Superior
Rooms come with super high-tech coffeemakers, iPod docking stations, shower/tub combinations, and bathrobes. All rooms have free Wi-Fi.
Features
Sauna, small fitness center, and environmentally-friendly practices
It goes without saying that a place this slick and professional offers free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Guests can use the
small fitness center and hot-stone sauna at no extra cost. The H20 Restaurant, which relies on locally sourced ingredients, serves a buffet
breakfast every morning (not included in the room price), along with lunch and dinner on most days and nights. There are several state-of-the-art meeting and
presentation rooms available for business gatherings and events, and there is paid parking directly underneath the hotel. There is no room
service, but there is an on-site shop open 24/7 that sells sandwiches, snacks, drinks, and travel
supplies.
