Mercure Hotel Hamburge Mitte is housed in a sleek building with alternating dark-gray and pale-blue glossy panels. Inside, the design is modern and slightly cold with a neutral aesthetic and low-lighting throughout. The lobby features a blue-LED front desk, a few benches for seating, and a desk with public computers. Hallways are clean and modern with brown carpet and black-and-white art pieces hung intermittently. The LED lighting appears again near the elevators and in a casual meeting room with a sleek black bar, retro-style leather chairs, and a flat-screen TV. The restaurant has a sophisticated design that features neutral and wood furniture accented with black-and-white photographs and silver lamps. The hotel also has a somewhat stark outdoor terrace set with black woven armchairs and couches surrounded by leafy vegetation. Location and services make this an ideal pick for business guests, though couples are a main part of the clientele too. 

This hotel has a pretty good location in Sternschanze, an up-and-coming neighborhood with a nice mix of trendy bars, boutiques, and coffee shops. A park with  lovely waterfall sits across the street, and the city center is about 15 to 20 minutes away by metro. The closest stop, Schlump, is located seven minutes away on foot. Both the Congress Center Hamburg and the Hamburg Messe exhibition center are within 10 minutes' walk, as is the University of Hamburg. The popular Schanzenviertel District can be reached on foot in 13 minutes, while Reeperbahn Entertainment District is 20 minutes away by public transport. Planten un Blomen park is just under 15 minutes' walk from the hotel. It takes 21 minutes on foot to reach the Millerntor soccer stadium. The Alsterarkaden shopping center on the canal is a 25-minute walk. The closest U-bahn stop, Sternschanze (Messe), is a nine-minute walk from the hotel. The nearest S-bahn station for longer trips, Hamburg Dammtor, is 12 minutes' walk. It’s a 15- to 20-minute drive to the Hamburg Airport. 

Air-conditioned rooms at the Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte are on the small side and feature a pleasantly forgettable style that’s in line with this chain hotel. The look is simple and less stylish than public areas, with gray carpet, white beds with red bed runners, neutral-colored curtains, and gray and blond-wooden streamlined furniture. White walls are decorated with black-and-white photography. All categories have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Some rooms are equipped with kettles for coffee and tea. Minibars and bottled water aren't provided. Modern bathrooms are also tight on space with white-tiled showers, hairdryers, and toiletries. Take note that some guests have complained about cleanliness issues in the rooms.
