Bottom Line

The 18-room Cypress Inn on Miramar Beach is a mid-range boutique located in a quiet residential neighborhood next to the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are homey and romantic, and have a coastal California style that matches the setting. Some rooms have balconies offering spectacular ocean views. Fireplaces in all rooms and two-person jetted tubs in some add romantic touches. The free breakfast and evening wine reception with homemade desserts are appreciated perks, as is the resident massage therapist. There is access to a pretty coastal trail right outside the door of the property. Both Wi-Fi and on-site parking are free, but there's little else in the way of facilities.

Scene

Warm, inviting coastal retreat with the Pacific Ocean just outside

This mid-range inn looks and feels like a residential coastal retreat. The Cypress Inn is made up of a three-story main building and another across the road. There is a front porch on the main building, and guests enter into a casual, breezy lobby with a tiny check-in window. There is upholstered seating in front of a fireplace, and coffee, tea, and ice water with fruit are served in this space all day. The setting is warm, inviting, and relaxing. A surfboard and contemporary art hang on the wall, and large windows let in plenty of natural light. Hallways and interior spaces are open and clean, with views of the ocean all around. The color scheme is inspired by the setting, with plenty of ocean blues and sunset oranges. This is a peaceful property with the type of rooms that invite guests to stay inside and relax beside the fireplace

Location

Quiet residential location convenient to the beach, walking trail, and dining

This oceanfront inn is located 28 miles south of San Francisco on the Pacific Ocean in a residential neighborhood just south of the Pillar Point Harbor and north of downtown Half Moon Bay. There are a few other oceanfront bed-and-breakfasts in the area. Looking out some of the windows, there is the illusion that the ocean is breaking below the building, although there is a two-lane road with little traffic between the inn and the beach. The Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail follows Miramar Beach south out the front door of the inn. The location is just slightly out of the way, but convenient to the waterfront walking trail, the beach, and the oceanfront. Pillar Point Harbor and downtown Half Moon Bay are centers of activity, and both are just a short drive away. Restaurants, including the popular Miramar Beach Restaurant, are an easy walk away.

Rooms

Romantic rooms with neutral colors, feather beds, fireplaces, and Keurig coffeemakers

All of the intimate 18 rooms are designed for two guests. Rooms in the Main House feature a natural palette inspired by the sea, sky, and earth, and furnishings are natural-colored wood and wicker. Terra-cotta tile floors are heated. All rooms have feather beds, flat-screen TVs, iHome clock radios, Keurig coffeemakers, and fireplaces. The six rooms in the Lighthouse are designed to be romantic and feature neutral tones with a beach theme. The Beach House is next to the Main House, and rooms there have two-person jetted tubs. Some rooms have only a shower, so if a tub is important, be sure to check that the room you're booking does. Guests with oceanfront rooms can choose to leave their doors open to hear the sounds of the ocean. Scenic balconies are another highlight. Both Wi-Fi and breakfast are free.

Features

Free breakfast and evening wine and cheese, plus free Wi-Fi

The Cypress Inn at the Miramar does not have a lot of amenities, but a free breakfast is served in the great room each morning, or guests can choose to have it delivered to their rooms. In the evening, wine and appetizers are served, and the chef prepares homemade desserts. There is no spa, but a resident massage therapist provides massage treatments in rooms or in the spa studio on-site. The staff will assist in arranging restaurant reservations, golf outings, wine tours, and transportation. A pretty coastal trail can be reached right outside the door of the property. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
