Magnific Hotel

The Magnific Hotel's "check-in and chill-out" slogan conveys the vibe of this all-inclusive beachfront property, and it's printed everywhere in case any guest forgets. Flanked by topiary spirals, its towering entrance impresses, and inside the lobby is a collection of several common trends -- pendant lights with oversize lampshades, slatted wood paneling, and minimalist bench seating. Outside, the grounds are inviting, with the white-story buildings decked out with signature wooden balconies -- the resort's most attractive feature -- spread across manicured lawns aligned with clay amphora and flower beds along its stone pathways. The resort draws mostly couples and groups of friends traveling together, and sees a mix of Turkish and European guests (including British, German, and Swedish). The location near Bar Street makes the hotel especially well-suited to partiers; despite the presence of a playground and kiddy pool, families may want to look elsewhere. 

The hotel is right on the beach in the resort town of Gumbet, which has become known for its water sports and vibrant nightlife. Numerous bars and restaurants are within walking distance of the property, including those along popular "Bar Street" -- the nickname for Erguvan Sokak -- which is a three-minute walk away. The hilly terrain might impede some. More dining and nightlife can be found in nearby Bodrum city, about an 18-minute drive to the east. Bodrum is also home to several major attractions, including the site of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the medieval St. Peter’s Castle. Expect a 45-minute drive to Milas–Bodrum Airport. 

The Magnific Hotel's 176 rooms are a curious mix of a streamlined contemporary furniture and dated decor and amenities, with an overall level of quality that isn't on par with its billed four-star status. Gray-tile floors and wood built-in furniture are streamlined and modern, if simple. Bare walls, minor wear and tear (such as dirty tile grout), and the silver tube-style TVs (in some rooms) are clear signs that further updates are in order. Free Wi-Fi (that doesn't always work well) and mini-fridges come standard, but there are no coffeemakers. All rooms have attractive wooden balconies with colorful red chairs, with either garden or pool views. Standard Room bathrooms are dated, with tiny shower stalls. Upgraded Superior Rooms have slightly larger walk-in showers. Toiletries are provided.

Across a brick promenade, the hotel has its own section of sandy beach with sun loungers under faded reed umbrellas. Water sports, such as speed boating and Jet-skiing, are available. The central outdoor pool has a freeform design, with a lazy river-style section that curves around a central island feature. There's a kiddy pool, and the sundeck is crowded with loungers and umbrellas. 

The spa has treatment rooms with standard treatments, along with a Turkish bath. The adjacent fitness center has modern cardio machines and weight trainers. All-inclusive rates cover meals and beverages (with some exceptions) at several on-site spots that range from a kebab house to a beach cafe to a happy bar and a common international buffet. They all offer breezy outdoor terrace seating, and there's also a lobby bar and a poolside snack bar.
