Bottom Line

This 200-room, upscale resort is a beautiful setting for a relaxing beach vacation, particularly with kids. The beach is sandy and gorgeous, with meals and drinks served directly to free lounge chairs on the sand. Lovely rooms have quality bedding, adequate amenities -- think mini-fridges and safes, but not always a coffee maker -- and sleek bathrooms. Scene

Gorgeous grounds and beautiful interiors at this beachfront hotel with many family-friendly features

This beautiful family-friendly hotel is an ideal vacation spot for beach lovers who want to spend their days lounging around on-site. Beautiful grounds, elegant interiors, and quality amenities make for a relaxing, upscale trip for leisure travelers. Cobblestone pathways meander past open lawns, greenery, and gardens bursting with colorful flowers, all leading back towards the sea. The grounds are relatively flat, making it easy to get around, but the property is large -- electric carts are available for luggage and those with mobility issues. The lobby is a beautiful space with tall windows, gleaming marble floors, and comfortable seating areas surrounded by bright green plants and white flowers, while the main restaurant has brick archways, colorful light fixtures, and rattan chairs with silver cushions. Aside from lower-category rooms, the overall look is contemporary and upmarket.

Location

On the shore of Halkidiki, between the towns of Nikiti and Neo Marmaras

Anthemus Sea Beach Hotel is on the coast of Sithonia, Halkidiki’s central peninsula. The area has a mountainous central region and a coastline dotted with gorgeous beaches. There’s not much nearby besides a few hotels and a campground, but there are two small restaurants within a 10-minute walk. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to Nikiti and Neo Marmaras, a 15-minute drive either north or south along the coast, respectively. Both towns have restaurants and shops to explore, and there’s a ferry from Neo Marmaras to a few other spots on the peninsulas. For a gorgeous beach with less crowds, check out Trani Ammouda Beach a 20-minute drive away. Thessaloniki is the nearest major city -- a 90-minute drive from the hotel -- and Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia is an 80-minute drive away.

Rooms

Lovely, relaxing rooms with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free safes

Standard Rooms are contemporary, but a bit underwhelming with a minimalist look featuring lots of honey-tone wood. There’s little in the way of embellishment -- just painting in the sitting areas -- but clean lines and warm palettes give them a pleasant feel. Wood floors and wall paneling along with a gray and ivory color scheme create a relaxing atmosphere, while quality mattresses and pillow menus on full- or queen-size beds add comfort. Sleeper sofas in the living spaces can accommodate additional guests. Many balconies have views to the sea, while others overlook the pretty grounds and pools. Rooms are advertised as having kitchenettes, but the tiny counter, sink, and mini-fridge barely qualify. All rooms also have small flat-screen TVs and free safes. Sleek bathrooms include shower/tub combos with hydromassage showerheads. Hairdryers, robes and slippers are provided, and free toiletries include soap, shower gel, and shampoo. Upgraded rooms include suites with more space, and some have dividers between rooms. Suites have nicer, more elegant decor, and come with options like heated private pools, large soaker tubs and separate showers, coffeemakers, welcome gifts, and room service options for lunch.

Features

Multiple dining options, three pools, a spa, direct beach access, and a kids’ club

This upscale resort offers quality facilities for relaxation and enjoyment. The main restaurant serves delicious buffet-style breakfasts and dinners in a romantic space with stone columns, plants and live trees, and colorful lampshade chandeliers. The a la carte restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with a menu emphasizing local cuisine and fresh fish. Three on-site bars offer multiple opportunities to grab a drink, whether in the more formal lobby, the laid-back beach, or at the peaceful rooftop with a gorgeous view. Two lovely pools offer space for swimming or sunbathing, though they are on the small side. The main pool surrounds an island garden and includes a whirlpool. It is surrounded by hotel buildings on three sides, and the sea is visible in the distance. A second pool includes a fenced-off wading pool for kids. A sandy strip of beach, accessible primarily through the hotel, offers free sunbeds under umbrellas and beach service from the bar. Lifeguards are present at all pools and on the beach. The full-service spa is beautiful and has a menu of treatments like massages, hydrotherapy, and beauty services. It also includes a sauna, steam bath, and indoor pool with a whirlpool. The attached fitness center is large and has a good range of equipment for cardio and weight training. On-site shops include a mini-mart, clothing, jewelry, and sunglasses. There are also courts for volleyball and tennis. Children have access to the kids’ club playroom with toys and an attached outdoor play space on a sandy terrace. Entertainment includes video and board games, billiards, and live music with dancing in the amphitheater. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
