The 88-room Red Feather Lodge provides a basic, low-cost, non-chain base for visiting the Grand Canyon. Rates are generally cheaper than the other hotels in Tusayan, the tiny gateway town to Grand Canyon National Park. There is a small outdoor pool with hot tub and free coffee and tea in the lobby. Rooms are small and simple, but fulfill the needs of budget-conscious travelers and those who couldn’t snag a room at one of the in-park properties. Wi-Fi is free, but can be spotty.

Scene

Basic, low-cost lodge

The open and airy lobby of the Red Feather Lodge has basic decor, but with somewhat of a local flavor. A Navajo rug hangs in the small seating area with dark brown leather couches. Large floor to ceiling windows provide ample light. The property is comprised of two buildings, the “hotel” which is newer, and the “motel” which is an older design. Both hotel and motel rooms have a chain hotel vibe, with small tube TVs.

Location

In the middle of town, less then two miles to the entrance of Grand Canyon National Park

The Red Feather Lodge is in a quiet and well-lit area close to fast-food restaurants, cafes, and gas stations. Everything in Tusayan is within a short walk, including a National Geographic Visitor’s Center with an IMAX theatre. The entrance to Grand Canyon National Park is less than two miles up Highway 180.

Rooms

Small, basic rooms with bland decor

The 88 rooms are small, with basic chain hotel-like decor: red and gold floral bedspreads, green carpeting, and plain wood furniture. There are small tube-style TVs, along with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, irons and ironing boards, and hair dryers. Bathrooms can be a tight fit in the motel rooms, while the hotel bathrooms are a bit bigger and have curtained shower/tub combos.

Features

Small pool, discount at adjacent cafe

The lodge’s outdoor pool is small, offering a place to cool off on a hot day, but it’s not a particularly inviting place to hang out. The hotel offers a discount to an adjacent cafe called RP’s Stage Stop, which has Wi-Fi and groceries. Wi-Fi is free, however visitors complain of spotty service. There is no breakfast service, but there is free coffee and tea in the lobby.
