- Property with long history, grand lobby, and charming details
- Great views of Granada from restaurant, rooftop bar, and rooms
- Bathrooms with intricate, Moorish-inspired tile work
- Valet parking available

- Wi-Fi may be spotty in rooms
- Surrounding hills can be challenging for less mobile
- Lacking in some amenities like hot drink facilities in rooms
Bottom Line
The 126-room Hotel Alhambra Palace merits the adjective “grand” -- the impressive building is more than a century old and housed a hospital during the Spanish Civil War. A hotel since 1942, this property is a short quarter-mile away from the Alhambra (the palace and fortress complex dating back to the 11th century) up a steep hill. The lobby has keyhole archways and geometric textiles based on Moorish patterns. Guests come for the charm of the place, not the modernity; while rooms have been updated, they aren't particularly stylish (though the tile work in bathrooms is lovely). Views of Granada from many vantage points, including the roof, are spectacular.

Grand, historic hotel
Perched on a hillside overlooking Granada, the Hotel Alhambra Palace has beautiful views of the city and the Alhambra. While certainly palatial, this hotel has seen better days -- carpeting can be a bit worn around the edges and some of the furnishings could use an update. The history, grandiose lobby, and rooftop bar overlooking the city still give the property a romantic, upscale atmosphere.
Location
On a hillside, directly next to the Alhambra
The Hotel Alhambra Palace is perched on a hillside looking over the city, and is about a five-minute walk to the Alhambra. Granada’s Plaza Nueva, a main shopping area and city square, is about a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. Some have remarked upon the lack of basic shopping in the area. A bus across from the hotel travels to the city center.
Rooms
In need of some updating, but functional
Rooms at Hotel Alhambra Palace continue the aesthetic of the hotel’s main areas, though in a toned-down fashion. Warm colors dominate the wallpapers and furniture; some bathrooms feature intricate, Moorish-inspired tile work. A number of the suites and rooms seem a bit worn around the edges, with older carpeting and thin bedspreads, and bathrooms are somewhat awkwardly laid out with little room to maneuver in between fixtures. Nonetheless, guests have commented that beds are comfortable and rooms clean. Some rooms have views of the city. Flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi are in all rooms, though the latter can be slow.
Features
Beautiful rooftop terrace
There are not many amenities besides the rooftop bar which affords splendid views of Granada. An on-site restaurant receives generally favorable reviews from guests. Guests desiring another dining option or basic groceries can take the shuttle bus across from the hotel into town.
