Guests would be hard-pressed to find cheaper accommodations than those at Nido el Aguila Lara Apartments, but facilities and amenities are thin and apartments are basic, though all include kitchenettes and terraces. An on-site mini-market is convenient and families appreciate the option to book all-inclusive meals at the hotel's restaurant and bar. The hotel is within walking distance to Europa Centre and there's a nearby bus stop bringing passengers to the beach is about five-minutes. Views from the pool are pretty but are far from the best in the area. A 2014 renovation could bring updated facilities and more amenities.
Scene
Renovated, no-frills complex centered on small swimming pool
The entrance to the main building of the Nido del Aguila Lara Apartments is down a set of tiled stairs into a low-ceilinged lobby area packed with postcards, activity pamphlets, and mismatched furnishings. Despite a 2014 renovation, some elements of this 1984 complex feel dated and squarely in the budget bracket of holiday accommodations. The two-story complex is built around a central pool surrounded by white-washed bungalows and palm trees that overlooks the surrounding countryside and offers partial sea views. Visitors are predominantly package-deal vacationers and families looking for a break in the sun without breaking the bank.
Location
Set on a hill overlooking Puerto Rico town, two miles from the beach
The Nido del Aguila Lara Apartment complex is set on a hill in the Gran Canaria town of Puerto Rico, in the southwest corner of the island. The town center and Amadores Beach is a little more than a mile away down a steep slope, so walking is not recommended, especially on the return trip. The Europa commercial center, however, is a few minutes' walk from the hotel and has shops and restaurants. Gran Canaria Airport is about 30 miles away -- 40 minutes by car.
Rooms
Modern apartments have basic kitchenettes and terraces or balconies
The complex has 44 apartments spread over two floors, all of which are sparsely decorated with basic furnishings. Kitchenettes, too, are simple with electric rings, toasters, and kettles. All units include a balcony or terrace. Apartments sleep up to three and have lounge areas with sofas and TVs. Although generally clean, guests have reported seeing cockroaches. Tube TVs, safes, and Wi-Fi come with a fee.
Features
Small swimming pool and children's play area
The hotel's small swimming pool includes a kids' section and sun terrace dotted with loungers and palm trees. A mini-market is on-site for self-catering supplies, while a no-frills restaurant serves a full English breakfast. The hotel also offers an all-inclusive option. There is a playground for children, but no other entertainment or planned activities.
