The Morasol Suites is an upscale 88-apartment complex that reflects the chic and shimmering Puerto Rico marina it overlooks. Unlike many hotels in this resort area, the Morasol maintains a relaxed and refined vibe, even during the busy summer months. Apartments are clean and contemporary, and most have sea-view balconies. Location means easier beach access but without the stunning vistas of the hilltop hotels.
Scene
Smart, contemporary, and refined
Built in 2004, the Morasol Suites still looks very much a part of the 21st century with its immaculate whitewashed walls, glimmering glass paneling, and smart contemporary architecture. The styling continues into the low-ceilinged lobby area, with colorful design-led furnishings, glass-topped tables, and polished chrome. This is where guests are greeted with a welcome sangria. The relatively long, low-profile building has only four floors. The atmosphere is relaxed and leans toward the urbane, attracting a mix of couples and families keen to keep away from the mayhem that can often accompany resort hotels during the summer months.
Location
Situated between the beach and the marina in Puerto Rico town
The Morasol Suites is located in the southern Gran Canaria town of Puerto Rico and overlooks the chic, yacht-filled marina. The nearest beach is about a 10-minute walk away, while the more popular golden sand beach Amadores is two miles up the coast. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance, and beach access is easy and, unlike at other hotels in the area, does not require climbing up and down a steep slope.
Rooms
Contemporary self-catering apartments, most with sea-view balconies
The complex has 88 studios and apartments that can sleep between one and four people. Decor is simple, clean, and modern with contemporary furnishings and clean lines. Most rooms extend to spacious, furnished balconies with sea views over the marina -- ground floor rooms have terraces with garden views -- as well as kitchenettes, lounges, and dining areas. Other amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and Wi-Fi, for a fee.
Features
Large pool and third-floor sun terrace with panoramic whirlpool tub
The hotel includes two swimming pools, one large and lined with loungers and another small padding pool for kids. On the thrid floor more loungers can be found, as well as an outdoor hot tub with panoramic views of the marina. The hotel's Orus Restaurant offers a breakfast buffet, and a la carte dining that can be enjoyed outside on the terra-cotta tiled patio, while the lobby bar serves drinks till late into the evening. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby but not in the rooms. On-site parking is both plentiful and free.
