The upper-middle-range Marina Bayview is an adult-only hotel with some of the most stunning panoramic views in the area. Its 113 air-conditioned apartments are cute and stylish, and feature fully stocked kitchenettes, sofa beds, and terraces with sweeping sea vistas. The infinity pool is lovely and quiet, and there is a separate deck with additional seating and cabanas. Breakfast is tasty and varied, but it is not included in the standard rate. The poolside restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, but some guests find the food overpriced. The hotel’s hillside location allows for great views, but travelers with mobility issues may want to stay elsewhere, as there are over 100 steps to get to the city center. Families may want to compare rates at sister property Marina Suites.
Scene
Attractive, adult-only hotel with a nautical theme throughout and stunning sea views
Although it may not look particularly exciting from the outside, the Marina Bayview ticks all the boxes for a laid-back, romantic getaway. The hotel is perched on the side of a steep cliff, which allows for panoramic ocean and marina views from all of its common spaces and rooms, and the adult-only policy keeps the atmosphere peaceful. Big decks with comfortable loungers and cabanas offer plenty of space to unwind and relax away from the busy city center, which is just down the hill (albeit well over 100 steps away, making this a less-than-stellar location for those with mobility issues). Interiors have a cute nautical theme that ties in well with the outdoors, featuring a stylish black-and-white color scheme, Adirondack chairs, white wood paneling, and natural fiber finishes throughout. There is live music from time to time, but the hotel lacks a full entertainment program, and guests -- most of which are British and Scandinavian couples -- seem more than happy to just sit around the pool during the day and have a quiet nightcap before heading back to their room.
Location
Stunning hilltop setting above Puerto Rico’s marina, but tons of steps from city center
Marina Bayview is located on the side of a steep cliff overlooking the town’s small harbor. This elevated position allows for stunning views, but walking access to the hotel is via a long staircase with over 100 steps. The city center, with its many shops, bars, and restaurants, is just a 10-minute downhill walk away, as is the town’s main beach. Amadores Beach, one of the most famous in the area, can be reached in about 10 minutes by car. Travelers looking to party may want to check out Playa del Ingles, a lively beach town a 25-minute drive away. Gran Canaria Airport is about 40 minutes away, and the hotel offers transfer services for a fee.
Rooms
Cute apartments with fully equipped kitchenettes, balconies, and sea views
The hotel has 113 one-bedroom apartments, all with air-conditioning and panoramic ocean and marina views. Decor is simple but stylish, with a white palette throughout, and IKEA-style furniture with metallic finishes. The nautical theme is subtle here, with just bold striped black-and-white wallpaper and matching bed skirts, and fun paintings of sailboats. All apartments feature a separate living area with a dining table, flat-screen TV, and sofa bed for an extra guest, and a balcony or terrace with at least a lounger and a table with chairs. Each kitchenette has a mini-fridge, cooktop, microwave, coffeemaker, electric kettle, and toaster. Wi-Fi is available free of charge throughout the property. Bathrooms are small but clean and contemporary, with a walk-in rain shower and modern trapezoidal vanity. However, some guests may find the swinging bathroom doors lacking in privacy. Also on the downside, safes require a fee.The hotel also features a few villas, which are bigger than standard apartments, and have an outdoor hot tub. Serendipity Villas have private pools and 360-degree views. About half of the apartments are duplex units, so guests with mobility issues may want to check with reception in advance.
Features
Infinity pool with panoramic views, deck with cabanas, restaurant, and fitness center
The hotel’s lovely infinity pool is located on a spacious deck with panoramic marina and ocean views, sufficient number of loungers and umbrellas, and a small plunge pool. Additional chairs and cabanas are available on a separate deck, complete with an Eco-shower -- which is like a small forest of wooden poles that spray water -- for those who want to cool down without having to go all the way to the pool. The hotel lacks a full spa, but massages, wraps, and salon services are available on request in-room or by the pool. The restaurant is open for all three main meals and features gorgeous views, but some guests find the food overpriced. Breakfast, however, gets consistently good reviews for taste and quality, and includes continental and English options (fee). A small supermarket on-site has all the basics. The fitness center is tiny, but has modern equipment and expansive ocean views. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
