The 45-room Hotel Terraza Amadores is a budget apartment hotel just a five-minute walk down a gentle incline to Amadores Beach and restaurants. Compared to the multi-pool resorts nearby, this spot's fairly basic -- there's a roomy courtyard, kids' play area and game room, self-service laundry, small shop, and modest pool with loungers and a pool bar, but no full-service restaurant. Apartments are simple but clean and spacious with sofa beds, en-suite bathrooms, and well-equipped kitchenettes. But there's no AC, and it'll cost extra for fans, safe use, and Wi-Fi. By comparison, the larger Altamar Aparthotel has more amenities and better vistas, but there's a lengthy (and steep) hike down to the beach.
Scene
Clean, budget friendly apartment-style hotel near the beach
Built in 2006, the all-apartment Hotel Terraza Amadores features a natural stone facade and simple decor. The reception area is bright with huge windows that let in lots of natural light and a cheerful yellow-and-white checkered floor, while tiled hallways show off vintage wood furniture. The hotel features wings that cup a central courtyard finished with small gatherings of palm trees and banana plants, beyond which is the property's small pool and pool bar. Views from the hotel are good but not quite as spectacular as the higher-perched hotels -- though the smaller incline this means the walk to the beach from Terraza Amadores is relatively painless. Clean but with limited amenities, this hotel is a solid budget option for vacationers who are willing to trade modest digs for proximity to the beach and a good price.
Location
Five-minute walk to Amadores Beach and restaurants
Hotel Terraza Amadores is situated near the base of a hill overlooking the beautiful white sand Amadores beach. The beach and its many restaurants are just a five-minute walk from the hotel -- the walk down a relatively gentle incline, a boon here, as many hotels and resorts in the area are located along a very steep gradient. For guests who want to venture farther, the village of Puerto Rico is around a five-minute drive (or a pleasant walk along a cliffside footpath) and the charming town of Mogán is about a 25-minute drive. Shopping Centre Europa, at the top of the hill, is about a 10-minute drive, but the hotel essentially has its own store at the base of the complex (Spar, a small shop with groceries and souvenirs). The property is also well-connected to public transit -- a bus stop is a three-minute walk away. Gran Canaria Airport is about a 40-minute drive.
Rooms
Simple, spacious apartments with fully equipped kitchenettes -- but some extra fees
This all-apartment hotel features simple but clean and spacious accommodations for one to three guests, each with a separate bedroom for two, sitting area with sofa bed, kitchenettes, en-suite bathroom, and roomy terrace, many with at least partial sea views. Decor is a bit dated but well-maintained and functional; beige tiled floors, white walls, and light wood furniture are livened up with blue details, like bedding, drapes, or accent walls. Bathrooms are somewhat oddly tiled in teal and white with beige floors and have basic wet-room style showers -- they can be a little dark, but have great water pressure. Kitchenettes are fully equipped and fairly spacious. Each has a dining area with a table and chairs, cabinet space, a two-burner hob, sink, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, plus kitchenware for dining and cooking. Sitting areas include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. Guests in street-facing rooms occasionally complain of noise from the road, and there's no AC. Another downside is the extra fees that incur for using safes, renting fans. or connecting to Wi-Fi, which guests also complain can be patchy. Housekeeping comes on alternate days.
Features
Outdoor pool with bar, plus kids' play areas, but few other extras
The hotel's main extra property feature is a modest but well-maintained pool area surrounded with plenty of loungers and featuring a small pool bar with tented seating and even two pool tables. Note that the pool doesn't get sun until later in the day, sometimes not until after noon depending on the season. The hotel also has roomy indoor and outdoor kids' play areas, plus a game room with a pool table and other activities. While there's no restaurant on-site, there's a small market at the base of the hotel with souvenirs and some groceries, ideal for guests who want to make use of their kitchenettes. There's also a self-service laundry room on-site. Wi-Fi costs an extra weekly fee. Guests find the staff attentive and friendly overall, but reception is not open 24 hours. Free parking is available near the hotel.
